LGISD Gets a Lot of New Directives From the State
More from last week’s La Grange School Board meeting: Senate Bill 12 Senate Bill 12 (SB 12) from the 89th legislative session relates to parental rights in public education, including requirements and prohibitions regarding instruction; diversity, equity and inclusion duties; assistance with District student social transitioning; and student clubs. This bill becomes effective on September 1, 2025.
Healthy Home Cooking Series Focused on Diabetes-Friendly Recipes Offered
A Healthy Home Cooking Series: Pan to Plate – Diabetes Friendly Cooking is being offered through the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Fayette County. The workshops will start on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 5:30-7 p.m. and continue on Oct. 9 and 16. The sessions will be held in Room 104 at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane in La Grange.
TCHCC Hosts Exhibit and Program on Cotton’s Impact in Rural Texas and Czech Communities
From the 1870s to the 1950s cotton was everywhere around central Texas. As of 1925, according to the U.S. Agricultural Census, Texas had 16,658,356 acres in cotton and produced 4,856,142 bales. What did that mean for the actual communities themselves? The impact of cotton in rural Texas can be seen through the specific histories of the communities and their successes and failures. We will look into two of these as they relate to all of Texas’ communities and see the part that cotton played in their stories. More stories will be told on how cotton is woven into Czech-Texas history migration, integration and the impact to Czech music.
Ring in Constitution Week with Bells Across America on Sept. 17
Sept. 17-23, 2025 marks the 70th year the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will celebrate Constitution Week. On Sept. 17, 1787, the delegates of the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution. As these delegates were leaving the Pennsylvania State House, church bells were rung. To honor the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution, the Smith-McMillan Chapter of DAR will host a Bells Across America ceremony.

The Bluebonnet Master Gardener Lunch-N-Learn educational program is a series of nine informational meetings designed to provide gardening or general landscaping for homeowners. Fayette County Master Gardeners plan and present a variety of information from experts in the area and across the state. This series is designed with the professional in mind. Bring your lunch and learn about a variety of topics that helps you have a more productive garden, prettier flower beds, or how to better understand your landscape ecosystems.

The Round Top Family Library and The Friends of Winedale invite you to meet Octavio Quintanilla, the new Poet Laureate of Texas. Join for an afternoon of literature, art, and conversation with one of Texas’ leading voices in poetry. This will be at the Meadows Building at the Winedale Historical Center on Sept. 21 from 3-6 p.m. A reception will follow.
