Fayetteville ISD is dealing with some COVID positive cases that has put its volleyball season on hold temporarily, and will leave the district down three teachers for the time being, but Superintendent Dr. Jeff Harvey said plans are still to open the school year as scheduled Monday.

The Fayette County Tax Assessor-Collector Office closed its doors this week due to staff members who were exposed to the coronavirus. The office instituted a 10-day quarantine starting last Friday and plans to reopen on Monday, Aug. 24.

County Tax Hearing Set for 6 p.m. Wednesday

Fayette County Commissioners will hold a public hearing tonight at 6 p.m. inside the district courtroom. The hearing concerns the proposed property tax rate. Commissioners proposed a rate of $0.464 per $100 of taxable property. That is the same tax rate as last year. Due to rising property values in Fayette County, the new tax rate effectively raised taxes by 1.7 percent. The public is welcome to offer comments about the tax rate at tonight’s meeting.

NVCC Resumes Dominos, Bingo with Precautions

Navidad Valley Community Connections (NVCC) is reopening for dominos Mondays and Wednesdays beginning at 10 a.m. each day. For confirmation call Carol Ann at (281) 923-6582. NVCC will also resume bingo games at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21 at the VFW Hall in Schulenburg. NVCC is set up for social distancing and proper handwashing. Temperatures will be checked prior to entering along with a brief questionnaire. Face masks are required. If you need a face mask, call Nancy at (979) 561-5092. NVCC will not be resuming the congregate dining service until a green light is received from Craig Moreau at the Fayette County Office of Emergency Management.

Ron and Pam Knotts Attend Granddaughter’s Graduation

Ron and Pam Knotts recently attended the delayed graduation ceremony for their granddaughter, Keylee Simpson, in Conway, Arkansas at the University of Central Arkansas. Her five years of hard work were finally rewarded with the traditional “walk” that was postponed back in May because of COVID-19.

The Friends of Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites are pleased to announce the 2020 Texas Heroes Day Student Art & Creative Writing Contest. Texas Heroes Day honors the men entombed at Monument Hill—Republic of Texas soldiers who were killed during the ill-fated Dawson and Mier Expeditions (1842-1843).
