Fayetteville ISD Deals with Outbreak

Fayetteville ISD is dealing with some COVID positive cases that has put its volleyball season on hold temporarily, and will leave the district down three teachers for the time being, but Superintendent Dr. Jeff Harvey said plans are still to open the school year as scheduled Monday.

Harvey said the first positive cases were confirmed Sunday. More were confirmed Monday, when people who were already quarantining were tested. Officials at Louise ISD, where the Lady Lions played volleyball Saturday (and won) were informed. Of note, Fayetteville is not allowing its fans to travel to away games this season and not allowing visiting fans to attend home games in Fayetteville.

Harvey said he’s been very proud of the way the school has responded and followed protocols to mitigate the spread of the disease, including thorough sanitizing of school facilities.

“If we were first in something I didn’t want it to be this,” Harvey said. “But this is a battle that’s going to be fought (by all schools) at least through this school year if not for the future to come.

“But we’ve got great people here and they responded the way they were supposed to respond ... we’ll get through it.”
