A storm Tuesday evening, Aug. 18, knocked out power to more than 2,100 electric customers around the Fayette County area.

On Monday, Aug. 24, TxDOT will be performing an inspection on a culvert on the west side of Ellinger on SH 71.

Larry Faldyn, the owner of Lukas Bakery in La Grange doesn’t know why the rumor has started that his historic bakery on the courthouse square in La Grange is closing, but he said the shop has been getting calls for the past several days asking about its status.

Fayette County remains under a mask mandate. County Judge Joe Weber told the Record on Wednesday that he has received requests from citizens to ask Governor Greg Abbott for an exemption to the statewide mask mandate.

The Dallas Marketing Group, Inc. released results of a survey it conducted of residents of Fayette and Lee County to better understand what healthcare services the community expects. The survey was mailed late in 2019 to 17,654 households in both counties and 1,398 residents responded by return mail or online. A similar survey conducted in 2012 serves as a reference and is used as the baseline of comparisons below.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday morning around 1:34 am Deputy Adam Mack while on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Mazda for an expired registration on Country Club Drive near US Hwy 77.

On Aug. 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment of the Constitution guaranteeing women the right to vote was officially adopted. Fayette County tested 161 students and teachers on day one of a week-long coronavirus testing event taking place at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in La Grange. The testing on Monday was reserved for students and staff at local schools.

Fayette County is just days away from getting its first artificial turf football field. Flatonia’s Bulldog Stadium was abuzz with activity even on a 100-degree afternoon Monday as Flatonia head football coach Chris Freytag, pictured above right, went to check things out. Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau reported that a man in his 80s from Pct. 4, the Schulenburg area, recently died from COVID-19. That’s the seventh death that Fayette County officials attributed to the coronavirus.
