Martin Luther Lutheran Church In Carmine Hosting Blood Drive

A blood drive will be held on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall (white building to the north of the sanctuary), 211 Luther Lane, Carmine, TX 78932.

Appointments will be required. To schedule an appointment, go to the MLLC website, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center – Donor Portal or call Kelly Hardin at (832) 212-2799. Her email address is khardin@giveblood.org.

Donors will receive a certificate for a pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream. It is sponsored in conjunction with Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top. There is a great need for blood, so please consider giving the gift of life.

RT-C School News

Round Top-Carmine ISD plans to open school on Aug. 24 with only grades 10 through 12 and grades 4 through 6 attending classes the first day. The next day, Aug. 25, grades 7 through 9 and Pre-K through grade 3 only will be allowed on campuses. No bus transportation will be provided these two days. All classes will return on Aug. 26, and normal bus schedules will resume.

There are many safety precautions for both travelling on the bus, on campus and in classes. Go to the school website at www.rtcisd.net for more detailed information.

Casino Night

The 6th Annual Carmine Chamber of Commerce Casino Night has been postponed to Oct. 10. It is normally held in August, but the Chamber voted to reschedule due to COVID-19.

The Chamber also has tee shirts and hats for sale. Both items are a great way to offer support for our “Little city with a big heart.”

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department reminds everyone that a burn ban is still in effect for Fayette County.

AMEN Food Pantry

Non-perishable food and monetary donations are being accepted at Martin Luther Lutheran Church for AMEN, the food pantry in La Grange.

MLLC News

Saturday worship service with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is at 9 a.m. Worship service with Holy Communion is at 10 a.m. Prepackaged wafer and juice kits are being used. Precautionary guidelines will be followed at both services. The service will also be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

The blood drive is on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

AA meets Sunday at 5 p.m.

Men in Mission meet Monday at 7 p.m.

Visitors’ Center

Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Recycling

The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Items accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. It is very helpful to have the recycled items separated. Attendants are available to help unload.

They kindly ask that you please wait to drop off items until they are open.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30 to 11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.
