The Friends of Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host a summer membership reception on Tuesday, July 27 at 7 p.m. Current members are invited to the historic sites to enjoy drinks, desserts, and fellowship. Nonmembers are welcome to join the Friends organization that evening. Friends memberships may also be purchased in advance by visiting the Friends’ website or contacting the Site’s visitors center.

Feed the Need has been creating community and meeting the needs in La Grange now for six months. They do this by having a hamburger and hot dog cookout every Monday on Mode Lane just across from the entrance to White Rock Park.

Linda Lehmann of Warda and her pen pal, of over 20 years, Joan Powell of Hecker, Illinois recently got a chance to visit. Joan was in town on Monday July 13 and the two enjoyed lunch as well as sight-seeing around Fayette County. This was only the third time the two had seen each other in all the years they have been pen pals.

At the recent board meeting for Fayetteville ISD, Dr. Jeff Harvey received two checks from funds raised by the Good Old Summertime Classic Bike Ride, now in their 24th year. $7,200 was donated to the athletic department and $5,200 was donated to the FISD Education Foundation.

After a long COVID-related break from Nursing Home and Swan Songs (Hospice patients) concerts, the Bugle Boy Foundation has resumed both. Swan Song concerts can be requested for Fayette County residents in Hospice care in a genre of the patient’s choosing free of charge to the recipient.

The unadjusted unemployment rate of the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas edged up to 4.9 percent in June 2021, from 4.3 percent in May, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The 4.9 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 28,340 residents seeking employment. The region’s unemployment rate remained below the Texas rate (6.6 percent) and the national rate (6.1 percent), which both saw increases in June as well.

The National Party of Texas comes back to Wolters Park in Schulenburg after taking a break last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This year’s Schulenburg Festival takes place Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 5-8.

The Department of Public Safety says alcohol played a part in a rollover last Monday that sent the driver to the hospital. According to a DPS report, the crash happened July 12 around 10:22 p.m.
