Alcohol Possible Factor in Rollover

The Department of Public Safety says alcohol played a part in a rollover last Monday that sent the driver to the hospital.

According to a DPS report, the crash happened July 12 around 10:22 p.m. on SH 159 between the Jersey Barnyard and Forest Hills East Road. The report said Thomas Clayton Brillhart, 33 of Round Top, was driving a green 2002 Jeep Liberty north on SH 159.

DPS Trooper April Galvan-Usher investigated the accident and wrote in her report that Brillhart “had been drinking and fell asleep.” She wrote that Brillhart stated that he attempted a faulty evasive maneuver to avoid hitting a deer.

The report said the Jeep entered the west ditch and struck a drain. The Jeep rolled on its right side and came to rest topside down in the culvert.

Brillhart sustained injuries. Fayette County EMS transported him to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. The report said medical records were subpoenaed. The report said Brillhart has not been cited. Charges are pending.
