Fayetteville ISD Education Foundation, Athletic Department Receive Donation
At the recent board meeting for Fayetteville ISD, Dr. Jeff Harvey received two checks from funds raised by the Good Old Summertime Classic Bike Ride, now in their 24th year. $7,200 was donated to the athletic department and $5,200 was donated to the FISD Education Foundation.
The foundation is using the funds to offer college courses for students from freshmen to seniors. All proceeds from the annual ride are donated to the school.
Whistling Ducks
We’ve made several references to our visiting whistling ducks. Recently they’ve become a little more engaging. During Fayetteville’s recent City-Wide Garage Sale, a family of whistling ducks dropped out of a large tree on the town square and proceeded to stop traffic. Garage sale shoppers promptly halted their cars and let the family, which included 17 ducklings, slowly waddle across Main St. Eventually, the ducks arrived at the entrance to the Red & White Inn, and for a few minutes, appeared to consider checking in.
Updating Procedures
Two months have passed since our new city representatives were elected. A few action items, per Mayor Mike Stroup: “We’re in the process of updating a lot of our procedures. There’s too much room for error in the present ones. An extensive amount of research on current city ordinances is underway and we’re asking for volunteers to assist us with reviewing these. Proposed Signage
One of our newly elected City Council members, Emil Knodel, has proposed a design for new signage that will more clearly identify Fayetteville as an official historic district, designated by The National Register of Historic Places. Public safety and historic preservation were key points in his platform.
The new signs are easier to read than those around town and would be placed on the existing poles. They welcome everyone to the Fayetteville Historic District and contain an encouraging message to drive friendly.
ARTS Has New Campus
The communities of Schulenburg and Weimar will reap substantial benefits as ARTS opens a new campus to be based in Schulenburg.
