Historical Commission Meets for Book Signing

A big crowd attended the Fayette County Historical Commission meeting at Sengelmann Hall in Schulenburg on Monday, July 19.

The meeting featured a talk, book signing and musical performances by Frances Barton and John K. Novak, co-authors of the new book “Czech Songs in Texas.” The book profiles 61 songs, mostly polkas and waltzes, that originiated with Czech and Moravian immigrants who came to Texas more than 100 years ago. Gary E. McKee also gave a talk on the history of dance halls in Schulenburg.

McKee reported the authors sold more than 50 books at the event. Read more about Barton and Novak’s book on Page C1.
