You’ve probably heard of the traditional 12 days of Christmas song.

At La Grange Elementary they celebrate the 12 days of Christmas in another way as teachers and students participate in various theme days for the 12 days of class leading up to winter break. And there’s one undisputed champ of those theme days – kindergarten teacher Taylor Gunn. She always puts a lot of effort into her outfits those days and has been the last several years. In the last few days she’s been a reindeer, a Christmas tree, an elf, Elsa from “Frozen.”

She said her favorite costume might be her “Snow Cloud” outfit.

“The kids love it,” said Gunn’s fellow teacher Jane Diggs.

“I don’t know if the kids are laughing at me or with me, but they are smiling and it’s making them happy so it’s worth it,” Gunn said. “At this time of year teachers are stressed, kids are stressed, and it’s just a fun way to lighten the mood.”

Not just her own students, but the entire campus now looks forward to what she’s going to be coming to school wearing during the Christmas season.

“I don’t want to let them down,” she said. Gunn said she embraces the Christmas themes more than most because she grew up in larger school districts (in the Metroplex and New Mexico) where celebrating Christmas was not really supported in the schools.

“Here it’s actually encouraged,” Gunn said. “I love that.”
