As a new school year gets underway, we’re profiling a new teacher at all five public school districts in Fayette County. Next in the series is Jessica Burgess who is a new 3rd-grade teacher at Fayetteville ISD.

The Blood Drive will be held next Sunday, Aug. 22 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus is offering credit and non-credit Czech language courses for students interested in learning about the language and culture. CZEC 1471: Beginning Czech I is available as a credit and non-credit course.

Panicked by rumors of a new wave of smallpox in 1926, the editor of the Schulenburg Sticker asked County Judge Leuders and the county health officer, Dr. Knolle, to inspect. The Charles Nordhausen family was indeed found to be infected. They were quarantined and flags hung at their residence. The quarantine could last three or more weeks. During this time, household members could not leave the house, nor could anyone enter. Furthermore, mail could not be sent from the house.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of July. Deputy Ben Wilson met with a complainant at the Sheriff’s Office in reference to identity theft.

The St. Rose of Lima Catholic School family gathered on Monday, Aug. 9 in the St. Rose Church for the annual Back to School Orientation and Open House. The event began at 5 p.m. and included a welcome and blessing by new pastor Father Scott Hill, introduction of faculty and staff, distribution of family information packets and an opportunity to meet support organization officers, teachers and visit classrooms. There were several new faces which included an increase of 11 new students.

School supplies may just mean the beginning of a new school year for some, but for others like Maggie Cartwright who has started Angel Supplies in honor of her son Jakaiden who passed on Aug. 29, 2015 at just two weeks of age they mean so much more. “Around school time it’s always been difficult because I felt as if I missed out on buying school supplies,” said Cartwright.

Both La Grange ISD and Faith Lutheran High School will resume classes for the 21- 22 school year this Wednesday, Aug. 18. Just a reminder that children will be waiting at bus stops and school buses will be traveling the roads. Please follow all the laws that will ensure our children get to school on time and safely.

What is Parent Leadership Training and what is the role of a Parent Leader? Parent Leadership Training is a program specifically designed for parents of children with disabilities. It is based on research and a move towards facilitated Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings. Parent Leaders are trained by Partners Resource Network (PRN) to attend ARD meetings with other parents. Their role is to help parents prepare for the meeting, plan an agenda, identify problems, and support the collaborative meeting process. This also means helping parents and the school reach consensus when possible.

Devon Boehnke traveled to Lubbock with Dana and Darrell Kulak along with Harold and Virginia Boehnke for Devon’s granddaughter Ruth Field’s wedding. Ruth married Daniel Cruz in a beautiful ceremony at the Cotton Court. Ruth is the daughter of Beth and Jack Field of Magnolia.
