Sheriff Korenek Reports on July Activities

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of July.

Deputy Ben Wilson met with a complainant at the Sheriff’s Office in reference to identity theft. A report was taken. Wilson also responded to a business on State Highway 77 for a stolen vehicle. The vehicle’s information was entered into the state database.

Investigator Marc Bennett investigated an alleged sexual assault of a child as well as a bank account of a local citizen being hacked and money taken by an unknown person.

Sergeant Ron Naumann investigated a report of suspicious activity in the Nechanitz area where a drone was observed flying over private property. Naumann also spoke to a property owner off of Country Club Drive in reference to livestock roaming onto his property and causing damages. The owner of the livestock was located and the problem was resolved.

Sergeant Investigator Angela Lala took a report of harassment between ex-spouses. Evidence was collected and will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office.

Deputy Ryan Meagher took a report of a stolen vehicle which was later recovered in Austin. Meagher also responded to a suspicious person on South Kirtley Road. A female was found intoxicated and laying in the middle of the roadway. Due to the level of intoxication the female was hospitalized.

Sergeant Charles Jobb responded to FM 1291 in the Ledbetter area for a hay baler on fire. The fire was caused by a mechanical failure and the Ledbetter and Carmine Fire Departments extinguished the fire.

Deputy Terry Guentert responded to a disturbance on Interstate 10 where persons in a vehicle became involved in a disturbance. The passenger exited the vehicle and had to be treated for heat exhaustion by medics. Guentert also responded to property in the Cistern area where a U-Haul vehicle was reported as being stolen by an acquaintance to the complainant who she brought to her property. The U-Haul was later located in Bastrop.

Deputy Austin Moore stopped the driver of a vehicle on US Hwy 77 near Schulenburg for a traffic offense. Further investigation resulted in two persons being arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Moore also stopped another driver of a vehicle on Interstate 10 near Flatonia for a traffic offense. After investigation the driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was arrested.

Deputy James Ulbig responded to a residence off of Jeddo Road for a call of criminal mischief in progress. The suspect was located causing damage to a travel trailer on scene and was arrested for criminal mischief and a terroristic threat to family.

Deputy Rick Martell provided a mental health transport for a patient suffering from mental illness from St. Mark’s to a hospital in Austin.

Deputy Joe Gonzales responded to property off of FM 155 where four rolls of net wire were taken. Gonzales also responded to a business in the Round Top area where two zero turn mowers were fraudulently purchased.

Deputy Michael Krenek took a report of theft in the Fayetteville area. A suspect was identified and a warrant has been issued.

Deputy Tammy McCleney responded to the St. Mark’s Emergency room and provided transport for a mentally ill person from St. Mark’s to a hospital in Austin. McCleney responded to a structure fire of a residence off of Muzny Road. Upon arrival McCleney discovered a small fire in a bedroom and extinguished the fire with the use of water from a nearby garden hose.

Deputy Jarred Michalec stopped the driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 near Ellinger for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was arrested. Michalec also stopped the driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 near West Point for a traffic violation. The passenger of the vehicle was found to be in possession of marijuana was charged with possession of marijuana.

Investigator Kenn Kretz is currently investigating the theft of well monitoring equipment in Fayette County.

Deputy Seth Nagel stopped the driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 near Ellinger for illegal window tint. Investigation resulted in two persons being arrested for possession of marijuana and money laundering. Nagel also stopped the driver of a vehicle on Old Lockhart Road for a traffic violation. The driver was found in possession of a controlled substance and was arrested.

Deputy Orlando Buitron stopped the driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 near Zapalac Road for an equipment violation. The driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant and possession of marijuana.

Deputy Lee Phillips responded to a suspicious person in the Ellinger area. The female was found to have an outstanding warrant and was arrested. Phillips also responded to a disturbance at a residence off of South Knesek Road. The disturbance was verbal and both parties were separated.

Deputy Dustin Kieschnick stopped the driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 for a moving violation. During the stop heroin was located as well as a firearm. The driver was arrested. Kieschnick also stopped the driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 for a window tint violation. The driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 66 individuals for the month of July and transported five individuals to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
