PFC (E3) Joshua Finke, son of Linda and BJ Finke from Round Top, graduated from basic training at Fort Benning on Sept. 3. He will continue his AIT (Infantry training) at Fort Benning and graduate in December. Joshua attended RT-C ISD through 9th and went on and graduated from Brenham High School where he also completed 3 years of MCJROTC.

Rheagan Karisch had a very successful week at the 2021 Fayette County Fair. She had the Champion American Heifer, Champion Commercial Heifer, five class winners in the heifer show, and overall Champion Heifer. Additionally she won Best of Department in the Photography division, blue ribbon photo, Division Champions with her cake and divinity, Champion Halter Commercial Heifer, and overall Intermediate Commercial Heifer Exhibitor.

William Anzalone premiers his new paintings and pastels at the Red & White Gallery in Fayetteville on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. The exhibit consists of a body of work titled “My Places,” visualizing his unique perspective on the world around his Round Top studio.

Bake Sale/Car Wash The La Grange Juneteenth Committee will be having a bake sale and car wash on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m.

Fayette County Fair President Michael Zuhn told the Record on Wednesday that attendance at the Fair was down compared to 2019. He did not yet have complete attendance numbers, but he expected to get those numbers later this week.

The murder trial against Dylan David Nelson for the 2017 killing of Jeremy Cornwell is set to begin Sept. 20.

Investigators have not yet released the name of the woman murdered in La Grange on Saturday, but the victim’s mother, Michelle Phillips, identified her slain daughter as 20-year-old Ezrianna Poncik of La Grange.

There’s been quite a rise in COVID cases locally in the last few days. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Fayette County has 238 active cases of COVID as of Wednesday, one of our highest levels at any point during the pandemic.
