Bake Sale/Car Wash

The La Grange Juneteenth Committee will be having a bake sale and car wash on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. in the Fayette Medical Supply parking lot located at 362 E. Travis St. in La Grange.

Ribbon Cutting

The Little Free Library at the River Oaks Apartments, located at 205 Northpointe, will have a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11. David McCall built the Little Free Library and he and Kenny Couch put it up. The Art Connection donated new children’s books. The Lamplighters, a women’s organization, is dedicated to positive change in the community sponsored this Little Free Library as well as the Randolph Center Library. Sally Van Duen will be bringing one of her miniature horses.

Bingo In Ellinger

Play Bingo in Ellinger at Ellinger C of C Hall this Saturday, Sept. 11. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos and desserts and refreshments will be available for purchase. There will be two jackpot games with a payout of $500 each and 15 regular bingo games with $1,500 in prizes. First responders and military receive a free beverage and entry into a drawing. The Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau meeting for September has been canceled due to the rise of the COVID Delta Variant.

Second Saturdays at Winedale

The Lewis-Wagner House in Winedale will be open for free tours from noon to 3 p.m. the second Saturday of each month. The first second Saturday will be Sept. 11.

St. James BBQ & Bake Sale

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue and the Episcopal Women will hold a bake sale on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $4 and sausage link $6. The meal is drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Texas Ramp Project.

Hermann Sons Life Shelby

Hermann Sons Life of Shelby will meet on Sunday, Sept. 12 for their quarterly meeting at Harmonie Hall beginning at 5 p.m. The lodge will furnish hot dogs and trimmings. Members are encouraged to attend to help plan for 2022. Members can also bring a dessert.

Round Top Library Garden Workday

Fayette County Retired Teachers

The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association will meet on Monday, Sept. 13 in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church located at 1215 Von Minden in La Grange for a welcome back luncheon. The luncheon will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by games and door prizes. For more information about the Association, call (361) 772-3068. While the name may imply only teachers, all retired school personnel are invited even if from another city or county.

There will not be a Plum Hermann Sons Life meeting Monday, Sept. 13 at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse in West Point.

La Grange Chess Club

The La Grange Chess Club will meet on Mondays beginning on Monday, Sept. 13 at the Randolph Rec. Center from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. The club is free, but registration is required as space is limited to 20 participants age 6 to adult. Fayette County Republican Women

The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 16 at Sealand Restaurant located at 2359 W. State Hwy. 71 in La Grange. Constitution Week Ceremony

The Smith McMillan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will hold a Ringing of the Bells ceremony in honor of Constitution Week. The event will take place Friday, Sept. 17 on the Fayette County Courthouse lawn in La Grange. The ceremony will begin at 2:45 p.m. Fayette County Judge Joe Weber will read a Constitution Week proclamation. DAR members will share some interesting facts about the U.S. Constitution. Everyone may join in reciting the Preamble to the Constitution. Then at 3 p.m., the group will ring bells for one minute in conjunction with similar ceremonies taking place across the nation. Feel free to bring your own bell and to wear red, white and blue. Constitution Week is Sept. 17-23.

West Navidad Wildlife Meeting

West Navidad Wildlife Management Association will have a general meeting on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Rock in “W” sale barn on Highway 77. The blue barn is approximately 2.5 miles north of Schulenburg on the west side of Highway 77. The social starts at 6 p.m. followed by a meal, auction, and raffle. Fayetteville Reunion Cancelled

The annual Fayetteville Schools Reunion that was to be held on Sept. 18 has been cancelled due to COVID concerns.

St. Wenceslaus Church Annual Picnic

The St.Wenceslaus Church in Holman, located on FM 155 between Weimar and La Grange, will have their picnic on Sunday, Sept. 19. The meal will consist of a fried chicken and sausage dinner with buttered potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, pickle and dessert. Drive thru only serving begins at 10:30 a.m. Plates are $12. Volunteers Needed At Winedale

Winedale is looking for volunteers to give house tours. There is no obligation as to hours or days you work. You just need to have a love of history and the desire to work with the public. Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Hospice Brazos Valley will host a Grief Support Group on the third Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for anyone who is grieving the loss of a spouse. A support and education group for a parent or grandparent who is grieving the loss of a child at any age or any stage of the grieving process will be held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Hospice Brazos Valley located at 1048 N. Parkinson’s Support Group

For anyone struggling with the Parkinson’s disease movement disorder, the group has reactivated in La Grange the third Thursday of every month for patients and caregivers. Sacred Heart School Parents Night Out

Sacred Heart Catholic School will host a Back to School Parents Night Out on Saturday, Sept. 25 at the La Grange KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown St. Happy hour begins at 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. with a chicken fried chicken breast dinner and the dance begins at 8 p.m. until midnight. Tickets are $25 per person. Oktoberfest on the Square

Oktoberfest is coming up quickly on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 3 to 7 p.m. Oktoberfest on the square is filled with tons of fun. It’s a true family event. Bring the kids to enjoy activities provided by Camp Lone Star of La Grange. There will be two live bands including the Dujka Brothers and the Second Wind Band under the event tent. For adults there will be over 80 different kinds of craft beer to sample. Wine samples will be available throughout the various boutiques on the Square. Don’t forger the homemade schnitzel and German noodles to round out your Oktoberfest experience. The event will take place on the Fayette County Courthouse Lawn located at 151 N. Washington St. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Historic Casino Hall, located at 254 N. Jefferson St.

Quilt Festival In Houston

The CVQG is sponsoring a bus to the Houston International Quilt Festival on Saturday, Oct. 30. This is a no fuss/no headache way to go to the quilt show. Leave all the driving and parking to the bus driver. Pick ups will be in La Grange and Columbus. The cost will be $55 for members and $60 for non-members.
