William Anzalone New Exhibit Opens At the Red & White Saturday, Sept. 11

William Anzalone premiers his new paintings and pastels at the Red & White Gallery in Fayetteville on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. The exhibit consists of a body of work titled “My Places,” visualizing his unique perspective on the world around his Round Top studio.

Art critic Catherine Anspon, writing in a new three-page story about Anzalone in the September issue of PaperCity Magazine, says Anzalone is “one of Texas’ most timeless painters, who’s boldly embarking on a new chapter creating canvases with a tensile, abstract edge.”

Anzalone’s paintings reflect the rural landscape of Fayette County while becoming nearly abstract studies of light and texture, inviting the viewer to become absorbed in the paintings’ many layers. Virginia Campbell, writing in Southwest Art Magazine some years back, noted that in Anzalone’s paintings “you feel you are getting glimpses of some ultimate, invisible order. His layers of transparent paint often building into radiance that makes it seem like the earth is glowing, rather than merely bathing, in the sun’s light.”

Anzalone is one of the most collected painters in Texas, having shown at Meredith Long & Company in Houston for more than 55 years. While he still has a presence in Houston, he chose the Red & While Gallery in Fayetteville to premier this new body of work because he says “this is where I am. This is what I see around me.” The Red & White Gallery also has a large collection of Anzalone’s earlier works on both canvas and paper.
