Arts for Rural Texas started 18 years ago when Michael Clann, Terry Ross and Jeanette Brown decided to provide art opportunities to children. The group set up on the Fayetteville square expecting a dozen kids to come and enjoy a project. Two hundred children arrived and ARTS was born. Today the organization serves seven communities in the region and opens is second campus.

The sign telling passing motorists to honk on her daughter’s birthday cost Cindy Kelly only a buck or two. And the chance to embarrass her daughter Hailey amounted to nothing at all.

We’re blessed to live in Central Texas where we can grow a garden nearly year round. The hardest part, though, is keeping it alive during the heat of the summer.

The La Grange VFW Fayette Memorial Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary held a POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony at their Tuesday, Sept. 21 monthly meetings. The ceremony saves a place for the missing man. Until the day they come home, we are to Remember. VFW Commander Andy Kruppa, VFW Auxiliary Americanism Chairman Elizabeth Kallus and President Vicki Latapie presented the ceremony. President Vicki Latapie and Commander Andy Kruppa were happy to present cakes for the special evening.

The City of Fayetteville is continuing to make substantial progress in all kinds of areas. They are excited to announce the launch of the new website. It will now serve as a user-friendly, central resource for everything to do with the city and much more. The site includes essential information for every Fayetteville resident – from the statutes with which the city is governed, to area resources and online bill pay capability, to a new page entitled “Fayetteville Reporter,” providing another opportunity to submit Fayetteville goings-on to this news correspondent.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Friday night about 10:45 p.m. the Fayette County dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a vehicle fire on FM 1291 near Bell Settlement Rd. in the Ledbetter area. The Ledbetter fire department was notified and responded to the scene along with Deputy Rick Martell. Upon arrival it was reported the vehicle, a 2018 Nissan Maxima, was fully engulfed on the side of the road and abandoned. The Ledbetter Fire department arrived and quickly extinguished the fire. There were no reported injuries and the registered owner of the vehicle was contacted. The owner advised the vehicle had overheated and broken down, so he parked it on the side of the road and caught a ride home.

Carissa and Brandon Karisch hosted a couple’s bridal shower for Madisyn Horndt and Cole Neumann on Saturday, Sept. 25 at their new residence off of Citzler Road. The new home was decorated with fall colors and décor. Guests gathered under the patio for refreshments and fellowship. A taco bar along with a variety of food trays was served. The shower cake, an Italian Crème, was served with coffee and other sweet treats. The couple received many useful gifts and look forward to their wedding day. Madisyn is a CAN at Columbus Community Hospital and will begin nursing school to become an RN in January. Cole is a member of the Columbus Police Department. Madisyn and Cole will be married on Saturday, Oct. 9 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the reception following at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall.
