Fall means it’s time to start preparing your Halloween costumes for Turtle Wing Foundation’s 9th Annual Monster Dash, which will be held on Oct. 16. The Monster Dash events will all happen in and around the corner of Anderson Street and Lyons Avenue in Schulenburg 610 Lyons Avenue, Schulenburg. There is no entry fee to attend or participate in the spooky fun. The celebration begins at 5 p.m. and will run until around 7 p.m. The Monster Dash was started in memory of Jack Hooper who loved Halloween and looked forward to dressing up each and every year. The highlight of the evening will again be the traditional Jack Hooper Costume Contest and of course the Monster “Dash” which will spotlight who the fastest kid or big kid on the block is. Additionally, attendees will enjoy Boo-Aroundthe-Block, silent auction, a spooky performance by the On Pointe dancers, and of course food and music. The teachers and staff at La Grange Elementary School went above and beyond on their amazing doors and windows for the PTO Homecoming Contest. Judges had a really tough time. So many details went into each of the entries to make them all so special. The PTO appreciates all the hard work that went into them. And, best of all the students loved seeing them all. The winners received visa gift cards sponsored by Fayette County Vet Clinic, La Grange Family Health and the busy b. The ribbons for the winners were made by Crystal Landry.

The Weimar Lions Club believes in community. The Lions also contribute to area non-profits that are trying to make a difference in the community. One of those organizations is the Schulenburg/Weimar Area Parents as Teachers (PAT) which received $500 on Sept. 21. The PAT program is in its 20th year in the community and partners with parents from prenatal to kindergarten, the early critical years that set the foundation for school readiness. Grow Wings 4-H Club is looking for more members to consider joining their club. This club was created as a project of a now graduated 4-H member, Jessica Shank, who had the opportunity to attend a Leaders in Equity Institute that was held at the National 4-H Center in 2019.
