City of Fayetteville Launches New Website; Kindergarten Students Learn About Apples
The City of Fayetteville is continuing to make substantial progress in all kinds of areas. They are excited to announce the launch of the new website. It will now serve as a user-friendly, central resource for everything to do with the city and much more. The site includes essential information for every Fayetteville resident – from the statutes with which the city is governed, to area resources and online bill pay capability, to a new page entitled “Fayetteville Reporter,” providing another opportunity to submit Fayetteville goings-on to this news correspondent.
All the information from the previous website has been transferred over. Please note that this site is still a work in progress. Check it all out here: https://fayettevillecitytx.com.
Committee Appointment
Only one position for the EDC was approved at the last City Council meeting. Kevin White has been appointed the newest committee member, serving a two-year term. White is an educator and a volunteer at ARTS. One more seat on the committee is still available. If anyone would like to apply, call the city offices.
Tax Rate Approved
The City Council approved the Fayetteville tax rate for 2021: .2306. A construction contract was awarded for Phase II of the Texas Community Block Grant—the Sidewalk Project. Work is to be completed by Jan. 30, 2022.
Budget Workshop
The public is invited to attend the 2021 budget workshop to be held Thursday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the community center. A City Council meeting will follow.
FISD Kindergarten
Fayetteville ISD kindergartners learned everything you would want to know about apples. They enjoyed baked apple cobbler and made “apple stamps” to decorate their apple tree illustrations.
Rosary on the Square
The community is invited to the annual Rosary on the courthouse square held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at noon. This public praying of the Rosary commemorates Our Lady appearing to three children in 1917. Over 20,000 sites worldwide will pray on Oct. 16 but because of Lickskillet Days, we will pray on Oct. 9. For more information, contact Madeline Kovar: (979) 378-2361.
St. John’s Feast Successful
Another successful feast was held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. There are a few items outstanding, but the net income should be approximately $80,000.
New Residents
After retiring to Fayetteville this summer. Faith and Eric Clegg are enjoying all the city and the surrounding county have to offer. They weren’t sold on the idea of retiring in Galveston after moving there from the Cypress neighborhood of Houston where they resided for 25 years. After speaking with their Galveston neighbors, Beth and Jim Rushing (now Fayetteville retirees) located the perfect Fayetteville home.
The couple have three children and have been married for 26 years. Their daughter is following in her mother’s footsteps, graduating from Sam Houston State University School of Nursing this December. Faith became a RN at age 51, specializing in wound care. She ended her career at Shriners Hospital for Children in the Pediatric Burn Unit in Galveston. Eric worked in the Harris County Sheriff’s Dept. for 31 years and retired a little over a year ago. He began on the narcotics task force. Fifteen years were spent in Homicide and while working in the Cold Case Unit for about four to seven years, he solved several old murders.
After those careers, they’ve both earned some downtime. Faith does cross stitching, goes full-out on decorating the house for every holiday and is currently working on a scrapbook capturing her children’s younger years. Eric bought a new kayak, goes to Lake Fayette when he can and is very excited about the upcoming Lions baseball season.
