ARTS Opens New Campus in Schulenburg
Arts for Rural Texas started 18 years ago when Michael Clann, Terry Ross and Jeanette Brown decided to provide art opportunities to children. The group set up on the Fayetteville square expecting a dozen kids to come and enjoy a project. Two hundred children arrived and ARTS was born. Today the organization serves seven communities in the region and opens is second campus.
On Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, ARTS opens the doors to its newly built educational facility, the Schulenburg ARTS Campus at 1206 Lyons Avenue. The Grand Opening Event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Nina and Todd Gorman have generously donated the wonderful facility that sits next to their On Pointe studio, making the area a wonderful arts destination for the community.
At the new location the organization provides its free Art After School program to youth in community along with planned programs for adults. ARTS also offers free classes to children at the Boys and Girls Clubs in Schulenburg and Weimar. Summer Art Camp will fill the facility with activities throughout the summer.
ARTS at the Old Stanzel will open as well with the opening, Essence, an exhibition of sculptures by Larry Schueckler and paintings by Ken Muenzenmayer and Karen Vernon. The nationally renowned artists are proud to offer their works in the community and invite all to come by and see them. The artists will be present at the reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
ARTS is an organization that believes in community. It seeks to serve the youth and adults in the region by supporting educational, cultural, and creative ventures. The new Schulenburg ARTS Campus is a shining example of growth, job creation, vitality, and community contributions that foster a quality community lifestyle.
