A few highlights of the Lickskillet festival held by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce last weekend: Local Fayetteville band, Southbound 955, kicked off the event with a bang with a wide range of popular tunes. From sold-out burgers and BBQ to the parade, Czech singers and dancers, young and old, to the live and silent auctions, it was an entertaining, two-day event in the best weather ever.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Friday night, Oct. 15 at around 11:56 p.m. Deputy Dustin Kieschnick conducted a traffic stop on a 2013 Mercedes passenger car for a traffic violation on SH 71 near Krenek Rd.

October is National Co-op Month. Co-op Month provides an opportunity for cooperatives to celebrate the benefits of cooperatives with their members and the community. The seventh principle, Concern for Community, is essential to who we are as cooperatives. We serve our community not only by being an essential service, but by helping to power our local economy.

The Navidad Valley Cattle-Women (NVCW) are a local chapter of Texas Cattlewomen and have been serving the tricounty area of Fayette, Colorado, and Lavaca counties since 2004. To be a member of NVCW you do not have to be an active beef producer, though many members are. Some are retired, some are involved through their business, and some simply love beef and are interested in promoting rural living and sustaining the agricultural practices that feed our planet.

Several Fayette County 4-H members recently competed in the Calhoun County Livestock Judging Contest in Port Lavaca. The Junior Team placed ninth overall. Team members consisted of Kaisley Janecka, Crockett Guenther, Adalyn Carrales, and Kylee Hoffmann. Tegan Sullivan and Julia Melton judged as an individual. Individually, Kaisley was tenth high point junior. The Livestock Judging Team is coached by JoJo and Kaci Carrales.
