Highlights From Fayetteville’s Lickskillet Days
A few highlights of the Lickskillet festival held by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce last weekend: Local Fayetteville band, Southbound 955, kicked off the event with a bang with a wide range of popular tunes. From sold-out burgers and BBQ to the parade, Czech singers and dancers, young and old, to the live and silent auctions, it was an entertaining, two-day event in the best weather ever.
The time-honored tradition of the Lickskillet contest carried on with Wendy Burks overseeing all preparations. Aaron Gross beat out 10 enthusiastic contestants licking up whipped cream like mad out of a tiny cast iron skillet.
It was great to see our city council members Cade Burks and Yvonne McGowen enjoying the festivities and donating their time (and bicycles for the auction in Yvonne’s case.) Our mayor helped out just about everywhere. Many thanks to Brenda Minarcik for all she does.
Rosary on the Square
The annual Rosary on the Fayetteville Courthouse Square commemorated Mary appearing to three the children in Fatima.
National 4H Week
Fayetteville ISD 4H members recently celebrated National 4H Week by stocking the teacher work room with snacks and contributing money for cookies baked by Lacey Bakes and donating them to teachers. 4H Extension Agent Mrs. Kayla Kaspar spoke to grades three, four and five about what 4H has to offer and members and students wore either 4H or green tee shirts to show their support. Members also participated in the One Day Color Run at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, with all proceeds going to the Emily Fritsch Scholarship Fund.
New Residents
While residents of Bellville for 13 years, Ricky and Deborah Hauptman discovered the charm of our little town after enjoying lunches at Orsak’s following church. They moved here this summer from Katy. Prior to living in Bellville and Katy, Ricky was in the supply house (pipes, valves and fittings) business in Houston for 36 years, as coowner of Carson Supply – one of the last independently owned mechanical supply houses in Houston. Deborah taught preschool while her children were small and then spent many years as the primary caregiver for her parents, grandmother and Ricky’s parents.
The couple have three children. The oldest boy is in law enforcement in Harris County. Their only daughter followed in her father’s footsteps, managing Operations and sales of mechanical supplies. Their youngest son works for a gas company.
COVID-19 put a halt to their plans for cruising down the Blue Ridge Parkway and other travels. In the meantime, Ricky is enjoying tinkering with tractors and old cars in their big barn. Deborah now enjoys being a grandmother to their five grandaughters and they both enjoy our beautiful sunsets and old, classic movies.
Antique Shopping in Fayetteville
A reminder that three antique venues in the Fayetteville area are open for shoppers. Antiques on the Square is just off the square at the SPJST Hall, opens from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and runs through Sunday. The Courthouse Antique Show in the Old Firehouse in the square stays open until Oct 30. The Market at Park on Park Prairie Road is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Oct. 22-24 and 29-31.
