Muldoon has some very sharp youngsters. Two of our residents have placed first in the UIL competition that took place in Moulton recently. Clint Wottlin took first place in the seventh grade “Maps, Graphs and Charts” category. Meanwhile Kalyn McDougal took first place in fifth grade “Ready Writing.” This is quite an accomplishment for these young people and everyone is so very proud of their awards.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of November 2021: Deputy Ben Wilson responded to a disturbance at a residence in the Ledbetter area. After further investigation, it was determined that no physical violence occurred and was a verbal altercation between roommates. Wilson also responded to an unknown address in the West Point area in reference to a suicidal subject. Wilson was able to locate the subject. After speaking with the subject, it was determined that he was not suicidal.

Everyone is invited to the Open House at the Faison House located at 822 S. Jefferson St. (US Hwy. 77 South) on Saturday, Dec. 18. The Victorian style House has been decorated for the holidays. Visiting hours and tours begin at 12 noon and Santa will be there from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring your cameras to have pictures taken of children and families visiting with Santa. There are no entry fees.

CASA of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Chrissy Baker, Teri Mouritsen and Tina Roudebush (left to right) as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) by Judge Benton Eskew on Nov. 30. CASA of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties endeavors to provide trained volunteer advocates in all abuse and neglect foster care cases assigned by the courts. CASA volunteers are screened and highly trained and then appointed by Judges to represent and advocate for a child’s best interest in the child protection system. The St. James Episcopal Church Men’s Club Holy Smokers donated $500 to Serenity Star Recovery in Smithville. Serenity Star operates a drug and alcohol recovery center and the Comfort Cafe, which is open for breakfast and lunch Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Cafe is located at 111 First Street in Smithville. Accepting the donation for Serenity Star are left to right; Gunnar Bownds, Ryan Reyes, Marcia Guerrero, Austin Townsend, and Heather McBryar.

Four adjacent tracts of land in Plum along Egypt Road totaling 280 acres recently came up for sale, but were all snatched up quickly. Their combined list price was more than $2 million dollars.

The La Grange High School cosmetology class and the High School Student Council teamed up to hold a coat drive. The student council members sorted them, and the cosmetology members handed them out at the AMEN building Monday morning, Dec. 6. Assistant Principal Nathan Truex came up with the idea. A total of 75 coats were collected.
