During a report at Monday’s city council meeting, La Grange Community Development Director Stacey Norris mentioned a little-known program that could help spur downtown development in a big way: the City’s second-floor redevelopment grant.

The monthly meeting of the La Grange ISD school board was held Monday. Here’s a roundup of the action: Public Comment Patsy Parker spoke to the board asking for them to “lead Texas in the nation with graduating students ready for firm foundations in their town and profession knowing where to turn for any answer – Jesus and his word.” Jan Hill also addressed the board concerning two issues.

You’ve probably heard of the traditional 12 days of Christmas song. At La Grange Elementary they celebrate the 12 days of Christmas in another way as teachers and students participate in various theme days for the 12 days of class leading up to winter break.

La Grange Main Street is happy to announce the winners of the 2021 Schmeckenfest Christmas Ornament Contest. Winners from La Grange Elementary are: Kindergarten-Kinsley Thomison, 1st Grade-Paisley Delgado, 2nd Grade-Charlotte Justus, 3rd Grade-Garrison Ulrich, 4th Grade-Kaden Raabe, 5th Grade-Paisley Greenwood, and 6th Grade-Bianca Carillo.

La Grange High School 2018 graduate, Ashleigh Holden, will graduate Magna Cum Laude in Dec. 2021 from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, majoring in Biomedical Sciences.

Forty future nursing professionals recently were recognized with their nursing pins after completing the Blinn College District’s highly regarded Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program. The fall 2021 graduating class includes Kaylee Dominique Orona, of La Grange.

The Weimar Mercury • The Weimar High School Marching Band made school history by advancing to the University Interscholastic League State Marching Band contest held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The Winchester Area Civic Association is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Christmas Outdoor Decorating Contest for the Winchester area. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded. Deadline to enter was Dec. 10. Judging will be conducted on Dec. 17 and 18 and the winners will be announced on Dec. 19 at a social at Zilss Hall at 6 p.m. (Note: this is a correction from past columns in regards to judging dates)

Round Top-Carmine High School’s FCCLA is collecting toys for ages 1-8 and the Senior Beta Club is collecting shoes and clothing for ages 9-14. These items may be brought to the High School. They will be wrapped and dispersed to local families in need during the holiday season.
