November Sheriff’s Report
Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of November 2021: Deputy Ben Wilson responded to a disturbance at a residence in the Ledbetter area. After further investigation, it was determined that no physical violence occurred and was a verbal altercation between roommates. Wilson also responded to an unknown address in the West Point area in reference to a suicidal subject. Wilson was able to locate the subject. After speaking with the subject, it was determined that he was not suicidal.
Investigator Marc Bennett is currently investigating a burglary the occurred at the Post Oak Bar. Bennett also took a report of a stolen truck and trailer which occurred in the West Point area. Deputy Ryan Meagher along with the La Grange Police Department responded to the Best Western Hotel in refrerence to a suspicious male. After speaking with the male, it was determined a mental health evaluation was necessary for the safety of the male subject and others. Meagher later transported the male to a mental health behavioral facility to receive the appropriate treatment. Meagher also took a report of several goats that were killed by two dogs. Meagher located the owner of the dogs and the matter was settled between the two parties.
Sgt. Charles Jobb responded to Village Market in Carmine for an accident. A dual set of tires came off an 18 wheeler and struck two separate vehicles, causing damage. The truck and driver were located in Washington County and a report was made. There were no injuries from this incident. Deputy A.J. Gonzales was dispatched to Interstate 10 near Engle in reference to a vehicle which was sitting stationary in the moving lane of traffic. Gonzales located the subject who was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested.
Deputy Herman Olvera responded to an address in the Cistern area for a tractor on fire .A report was taken and the cause of the fire was believed to be a mechanical issue with the battery. Deputy Austin Moore conducted a traffic stop on Highway 90 just east of Flatonia for defective equipment. After further investigation the driver was found to be in possession of several types of narcotics and was placed into custody. Moore also stopped a vehicle on Interstate 10 near Engle for defective equipment . Narcotics were located inside the vehicle and the driver was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Deputy James Ulbig took a report of a burglary of a vehicle which occurred in the La Grange area. Deputies Rick Martell and Michael Krenek tracked down a stolen Skid-Steer and located two possible suspects. Confessions were obtained and both subjects were arrested for theft. Krenek also responded to an inquest in the La Grange area. The manner of death was determined to be of natural causes.
Deputy Joe Gonzales and Michael Krenek responded to a residence near La Grange in reference to a suicidal female. Deputies contacted MHMR and it was determined the female be transported to a facility for further treatment. Gonzales also took a report of a structure fire that was fully engulfed in the La Grange area. Red Cross was contacted and assistance is being provided to the family at this time.
Deputy Jared Michalec stopped a vehicle on Highway 71 near Ellinger. The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana and a handgun. The driver was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. Michalec also stopped a vehicle on Highway 71 near West Point. The driver was found to be in possession of THC and was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Deputy Seth Nagel stopped a vehicle on Highway 71 near Ellinger for an equipment violation. Nagel located approximately 15 kilos of methamphetamine and 38 grams of cocaine along with a firearm.
