Country Music Club to Host Christmas Opry on Monday
The Fayette County Country Music Club will host their Christmas Opry on Monday, Dec. 20 at the KC Hall in La Grange. The show starts at 7 p.m. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $7
For this Christmas show, the club is happy to have The Dujka Brothers, Allison Crowson, Dennis Stryk, Arthur Bosque and Santa Claus.
Dennis Stryk, of Schulenburg and a lifelong resident of Fayette County, has been intrigued with country music since the age of seven, spanning some 65 years. At the age of 15, he started playing in a band locally for weddings, reunions and trail ride gatherings. After a tour in Vietnam, in 1968 and 1969, the band started playing the dancehall circuit.
In 1973 he became the lead singer for “The Wild West” and in 1976, the band “Wildfire,” playing dancehalls throughout south central Texas, playing the songs of recording artists Ray Price, Merle Haggard, BJ Thomas and Ronnie Milsap. Also in 1973, he became owner and operator of New Bielau Dancehall south of Weimar for 22 years featuring some of the best country bands in central Texas.
Since 1995, he has been singing for weddings, funerals, and memorial and veterans events. For the past 10 and a half years, he was fortunate enough to become a member of a Christian musical group, “D’Vine Testament” and they have performed at many events. Also for the past four years the Christian group has doubled as a Classic Country Band “Wren’s & Friends” playing many different venues. All and all, you could say “he just loves to sing.”
Arthur Bosque, one of our hometown singers, will be here to sing some Spanish songs and will be doing a tribute to the late and great Freddy Fender.
Allison Crowson is from Brenham and has been singing and playing around the area for many years. She started the Bluebonnet Opry in Brenham and is a great accordion player and singer. She now runs the White Horse Tavern in downtown Burton Texas with live music on Friday and Saturday nights. She recently has started doing a tribute to female singers such as Tammy Wynett, Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton.
The Dujka Brothers, the duo of John and Mark Dujka are celebrating their 32nd year in the entertainment business. They have appeared at numerous public and private celebrations spreading their excitement for the traditional music that helped build and strengthen Czech and German communities in the state.
Their music can be heard on polka radio programs across the nation as well as the Big Joe Polka show on RFD-TV and they have been recognized by the Texas Polka Music Association and 247PolkaHeaven.com for their recordings. They are proficient on numerous wind and key board instruments as well as guitars and accordions, blending their voices to create an outstanding sound that has helped to make them one of Texas most popular duos in polka music.
They have produced many albums with over 200 tracks. You will be amazed by their versatility and their honesty in delivering the best in Texas polka and waltz music.
The country music club is hoping to have a visitor from the North Pole. A good source has announced that ol’ Santa Claus will take time out of his busy schedule to come and visit the Opry.
