UIL Winners in Muldoon
Muldoon has some very sharp youngsters. Two of our residents have placed first in the UIL competition that took place in Moulton recently. Clint Wottlin took first place in the seventh grade “Maps, Graphs and Charts” category. Meanwhile Kalyn McDougal took first place in fifth grade “Ready Writing.” This is quite an accomplishment for these young people and everyone is so very proud of their awards.
Out and About
The Schwartzenburg family came in to the Muldoon to visit John and Debra Schwartzenburg along with Ted and Nada Burns. Irving and Kayleen Schwartzenburg were in from Houston; Ben and Brenna Schwartzenburg and their three boys all the way from Minnesota; David and Handaldra Schwartzenburg and their new son Lucian and Becky and Will Transvich all of the Houston area; and coming all the way from Pennsylvania were Tim Schwartzenburg and his fiancé Rachel. This big family gathering was topped off with a whole pig roast and a fried turkey. It was a great gathering of extended family. The family was thrilled to also have Beverly Schwartzenburg arrive from Maryland to top off a wonderful gathering of a big extended family.
James and I went to Dallas for a couple days for James to attend a Construction Materials Conference. While there we found out how small a world it is. We ran into Devon Boehnke’s grandson in law Daniel Cruz from Lubbock, who also was at the conference. It was nice to see Dan again. On the way home we stopped outside Waco at the Heritage Quilt Shop and for the first time discovered it was just the tip of a neat community. We got directed on down the way to the Homestead Craft Village and got to explore a really neat homesteading community that makes cheeses, spins yarn, weaves cloth, grinds grain in their own grist mill, has a working blacksmith shop, a woodworking shop, a pottery shop and a basket weaving shop. What a great find to stumble on. All the shops offer classes in their crafts. We plan on going back and exploring a little deeper next time and getting to eat at the wonderful smelling, four star restaurant, too.
Weather
The weather has been bouncing about the thermometer lately with mornings being on the cold side for a while, and then bouncing back around in few days to be much more moderate. There were some strong winds, but they died down. Now we have seen some fog in the area along with some misty mornings. Not much moisture has fallen, so the misty mornings are welcomed for the winter pastures.
Neighborhood Watch
Tis the season to keep a close eye out for each other and keep in touch with your neighbors. Take note of any strange vehicles in the area and call your neighbors to see if they are having company. And if you are going out of town have a trusted neighbor to check on your place to keep things safe.
Christmas
December means Christmas and there are a number of homes in the area that have taken on the challenge to decorate and show the Christmas spirit. Just take a drive after dark and enjoy the lights along the way.
During this festive season be sure and remember those community members who may not be able to get out and enjoy the time of year. Make a call, stop by, drop a card or maybe bake some cookies to drop off to those who are not able to go out and have a good time. It does not take much to reach out and touch base just to let them know they are not forgotten and spread a little holiday cheer.
