Roadwork Begins June 3 on Hwy. 159

The Texas Department of Transportation will be starting a project to rehabilitate the existing roadway on SH 159 from BS 71E to SH 237 on Monday, June 3, weather permitting. In order to replace several drainage structures, SH 159 will be closed intermittently over approximately six weeks beginning on Monday, June 3. The road closures will take place in between SH 71 and SH 237. Below are the dates and approximate duration of the SH 159 road closures (weather permitting) that will take place over the course of six weeks:
TxDOT plans to rehabilitate SH 159 from La Grange to the Fayetteville “Y” starting on June 3. Motorists can avoid the road closures by following the detour map above.

Congratulations to Dominick Smith of La Grange High School who will be graduating a year early due to qualifying for the Texas First Early High School Completion Program. He is the first LHS student to do so via this program, which started in 2021.

Plant & Seed Sale to Benefit Animal Shelter

A landscaping plant and bluebonnet seed sale benefitting Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter will be held at The Crown Bar at 114 S. Main Street in La Grange. Hundreds of healthy, professionally raised native plants in gallon or larger planter or hanging containers, perfect for summer landscaping, will be available at low price or free will donations directly benefiting the animal shelter. Additionally, over 30,000 bluebonnet seeds sustainably harvested in the local area will be available in various packet sizes for free will donations. The amazing Passing Strangers will perform a concert Saturday evening at the location at 7:30 p.m. Sale times will be Friday from 5 - 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Saying Goodbye to Father Felix

It’s been a week of goodbyes for Father Felix Twumasi, the priest at the Hostyn and Plum churches. After six years serving in the Diocese of Victoria, he is leaving at the end of the month to further his studies at the request of his bishop in Ghana.

As of May 17, the total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 628: 285 dogs and 343 cats in need. As of May 17, the shelter has 111 animals in care: 58 dogs/53 cats.
