RT Library Events

Art After School is partnering with Arts for Rural Texas. Ballet class on Wednesdays, beginner friendly ballet focusing on practicing and perfecting skills for students interested in the arts for grades K-2. JMG Kids Garden class is also on Wednesdays. Kids will learn the art and science of gardening for grades 4th, 5th and 6th graders. All classes begin in September from 4-5:15 p.m. Registration required for all classes. BBQ & Bake Sale

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue and the Episcopal Church Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Presley’s Power organization.

Remembrance on Monument Hill

The annual Monument Hill Remembrance will be held at Monument Hill State Historic Site on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. Visitors and descendants are invited to participate in the solemn ceremony to commemorate the Dawson and Mier men entombed at the site, as part of the larger Texas Heroes Day celebrations. FWS Corporation Meeting

Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a monthly meeting of the board of directors on Monday, Sept. 16 at 4:30 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Rd. in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.

Smith-McMillan Bells Across America The Smith-McMillan DAR chapter is hosting Bells Across America Ceremony Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 2:45 p.m. which will be held on the Fayette County Courthouse lawn. Everyone is invited to attend. This ceremony will be held all across America at this time and is a celebration of the signing of the United States Constitution. A proclamation will be read and a brief talk about the constitution, and the bells will ring at 3 p.m.

Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Dinner The Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau stew dinner and quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia. Social hour will start at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Marcus Zarosky, Fayette County Farm Bureau Agency Manager. A short business meeting will follow the meal. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert.

VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary to Meet On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds. The Auxiliary meets at 5 p.m. Then at 6 p.m., the Post and Auxiliary will gather for the solemn POW MIA Remembrance Ceremony after which there will be a meal. The Post meeting will follow. Potential members are invited to attend.

Teens in The Kitchen at Library

Teens in the Kitchen is back at the Fayette Public Library. Teens ages 12 and up are welcome to sign up for this once-amonth program hosted by the library. Join on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 4:30-6 p.m. to make Smash Burger Tacos. Teens will learn the skills to prep and cook a delicious afternoon snack. All materials and utensils will be provided. Fayette County Republican Women The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women for their September General Meeting Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. Lunch is available for $20. Guest speaker will be Stephanie Holderfield, Executive Director of Citizens Defending Freedom. Citizens Defending Freedom is an organization that empowers and equips American citizens to defend their freedoms and liberties at the local level. By streamlining and simplifying activism, they support and champion American citizens who want to stand up for their independence. The organization has been successful in getting conservative school board members elected in several schools in the Houston area, among other grass roots efforts. Also interesting, Ms. Holderfield served in the Trump Administration from 2017-2020 as Chief of Staff for Customs and Border Protection, Chief of Staff for Rural Business Cooperative, and Senior Advisor of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under Secretary Ben Carson’s leadership. LHS Junior Class Dinner Fundraiser The La Grange High School Junior Class will have a dinner fundraiser Friday, Sept. 27 at the La Grange High School Cafeteria from 4:30-6 p.m. Tickets are $14, drive-thru only. The meal includes chicken fried steak, twice-baked potatoes, green beans, corn, roll, and peach cobbler, catered by Koopmann Catering. A free-will donation bake sale will also be held in conjunction with the dinner. Woppenkamp Family Reunion

The North Central Fayette County Wildlife Management Co-op is having their Annual Fall Meeting on Sept. 28 at Camp Kubena (formerly Cooper Farms). Books for Bikes Meal Tickets

In support of a reading program at La Grange Elementary School, meal tickets are being sold to raise funds to purchase bikes and helmets for the top girl and boy reader in each grade. The drive-thru dinner will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at the Vail St. bus lanes and serving will be from 4:30-6 p.m. Meals are $13 and will consist of chicken fried steak, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, banana pudding and a roll for dessert. Texas Czech Heritage Fest

The Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange announces the entertainment for the 2024 Heritage Fest on Oct. 18-19. The Dujka Brothers will again headline the Friday evening kickoff with Octoberfest on the Deck from 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday will see the Moravians Band and Praha Brothers Band in the Hospoda (tavern) Pavilion from 11a.m.-5:30 p.m. The CzechMates Trio featuring Alfred Vrazel will be in the Fraternal Mutual Pavilion from 12-3 p.m. The finale Saturday evening will be the Tribute to the Baca Orchestras re-created at the Sanford Schmid Amphitheater from 7-9:30 p.m.with a big fireworks show to conclude the Fest. Beekeepers Association Meeting

The Fayette County Beekeepers Association (FaycoBeeks) will have meeting on the first Saturday, of every month at the Fayette County Agriculture Building in La Grange, located at 255 Svoboda Ln. For anyone interested in learning about beekeeping, there will be a Beekeeping 101 Honey Bee Biology presentation from 4:30-5:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow, please bring your favorite entrée, side or dessert to share. Afterwards, there will be a business meeting, an open discussion on bee-things, and a guest presentation. It is also a great opportunity to meet up with experienced beekeepers who can serve as mentors and advisors. Membership dues for 2024 are $25/year, individual or family. Membership is not required to attend meetings, FaycoBeeks welcomes all attendees and encourages beekeepers and their families to join. Vietnam Veterans Meeting

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
