State Workers Moving Out of Downtown LG Office
The Texas Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) moved out of its offices at 228 N. Main St. in La Grange. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) had an office in that building and they’re moving out as well.
Fayette County owns the building and terminated the lease with the state agencies back in July. Tiffany Young, a spokesperson for HHS, said her agency is seeking new office space. In the meantime, clients can visit the HHS office in Giddings, located at 202 N. Main St. They may also contact HHS by Calling 2-1-1 or 877-541-7905 (select language and then Option 2); or finding an alternative office online at https://yourtexasbenefits. com/Screener/FindanOffice; or reaching out to an HHS Community Partner Program who can refer them to relevant community resources.
HHS handles services including health, financial and food assistance benefits such as Medicaid, CHIP, TANF, and SNAP.
DFPS spokesperson Mark Wilson said nine staff were headquartered at the La Grange office. All of them have been relocated to nearby facilities in Bastrop and Brenham. DFPS includes the State’s Child Protective Services division.
“We are currently searching for a new location in the area to continue to serve the community with a local presence, but we do not currently have a contract for a new facility,” Wilson said.
Any families currently receiving DFPS services can reach out to their caseworkers for additional information, or visit offices in Brenham, located at 2248 S. Market St., or in Bastrop, located at 3809 E. Loop 150, Ste. 102.
