City of LG Keeping Lid on Details of Land Purchase for ‘Public Event Space’

The City of La Grange took a step toward purchasing a piece of property in downtown.

The City Council met in executive session Monday night to review the terms of a contract with the seller. After the closed-door meeting, they approved the contract and forwarded it to the seller for their signature.

City Manager Jack Thompson told the Record he could not discuss the purchase until the seller gives their final approval. Thompson said he was confident the deal would go through because the seller had already agreed to the terms.

Thompson declined to discuss the City’s plans for the property until the deal is finalized and would not disclose the location.

The Record has reason to believe it is the recently vacated Fayette Electric Cooperative headquarters.

The City has been in negotiations with the seller for several months. At a previous meeting, Thompson stated that the City was interested in purchasing property for a “public event space.”
