Only Fair Mishap: Truck Takes Down Power Pole
La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath released a report on the pickup that knocked down an electric pole at the Fayette County Fair.
The accident happened late on Saturday, Aug. 31, as the Fair was winding down for the night. Gilbreath said 35-year-old Christopher Smith of New Ulm was leaving the parking lot of the Fairgrounds near the softball field in a silver 2023 Ford F-350 dually pickup. Gilbreath said Smith saw the pole but he didn’t see the pole’s guy wire. The pickup struck the guy wire and the pole fell down.
A street light was mounted to the pole, and the arm holding up the street light crashed onto a 2023 Ford F-150 that was parked nearby.
The City of La Grange sent an electric crew to cut off the power and repair the downed pole.
Gilbreath said Smith was cited for not having insurance on his vehicle. Both vehicles suffered some damage but were able to be driven from the scene.
Other than that, Gilbreath said the Fair came and went this year without any major incidents.
