Local Students Hard at Work on Summer Community Theatre Play

More than 60 students from Fayette and surrounding counties came out to audition for Fayette County Community Theatre’s upcoming double feature plays “Narnia Storybook” and “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.” They range in age from 5 to 17 years old, and hail from La Grange, Giddings, Bastrop, Ellinger, Moulton, Weimar, Schulenburg, West Point, Plum and other areas.

Miss Fayette County Czech Slovak Queen Madelyn Karstedt, daughter of John and Bonny Karstedt of La Grange, was crowned Miss Texas Czech Slovak Queen at the Czech Heritage Society Queen pageant on June 29.

The Fayette County Beekeepers Association (FaycoBeeks) will have their next meeting on Saturday, July 6 at the Fayette County Agriculture Building in La Grange, located at 255 Svoboda Ln. For anyone interested in learning about beekeeping, there will be a Beekeeping 101 Honey Bee Pests and Diseases from 4:30-5:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow, please bring your favorite entrée, side or dessert to share. Afterwards, there will be a business meeting, and a guest presentation. This is a great opportunity for new beekeepers to meet with club members that can serve as mentors and advisors. Membership dues for 2024 are $25/year, individual or family. Membership is not required to attend meetings, FaycoBeeks welcomes all attendees and encourages beekeepers and their families to join. Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on June 23, at approximately 9:54 p.m. Deputy Cody Williams was traveling westbound in or about the 665-mile marker area of I-10 where he stopped a 2012 Toyota Tundra for a traffic violation.

LCRA Chief Maintains Fayette Site Best

July 2, 1974 Officials and engineers of the Lower Colorado River Authority and Bechtel Engineering spent over two hours Friday night explaining the why’s, when’s and how’s of the proposed coal-fired electric generating plant to an audience of approximately 600 at the La Grange public school auditorium. A senior LCRA manager assured the audience that the LCRA had been in the environmental business for years and all matters pertaining to environmental and pollution controls would be taken up with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Water Quality Board.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on June 26, at 9:58 p.m. Deputy C. Williams was on routine patrol in or about the 664-mile marker area of I-10 in Flatonia when he observed a silver Volvo commit a traffic violation.
