Ledbetter Bingo
Bingo for seniors (60 and older plus guests) will be held at the Ledbetter Community Center on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. A $5 card covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips and snacks and drinks available for a freewill donation.
Making History
The League of Women Voters of South Central Texas invites interested members of the public to join the kickoff event for Women Making History, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m. at the Casino Hall in La Grange. Genealogy
The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives is offering a free workshop that includes eight streamed genealogy programs on Friday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. You may attend one or all of the sessions which will take place in the Archives above the Fayette Public Library at 855 S. Fayette Water Supply Corporation will be conducting a monthly meeting of the Board of Directors on Monday, Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the FWSC office located at 200 Bordovsky Road in La Grange. All members are encouraged to attend.

Winedale Zoom Talk
On Tuesday, Oct. 22 at noon, via zoom, author and historian Mitchel Roth will speak about the Texas Prison Rodeo, which ran from 1931 to 1986. Over the years the rodeo not only boasted death-defying entertainment but also featured a virtual who’s who of American pop culture, with movie stars from Tom Mix to John Wayne and music legends such as Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. Depot Marker to Be Unveiled
Fayette County’s newest Texas Historical Marker will be unveiled at a ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22. State and local dignitaries will help celebrate the La Grange M-K-T “Katy” Depot, which has become one of the area’s most-visited museums. The Katy rail line reached La Grange in 1887. The current depot opened in November 1897. The public is invited to the marker dedication, which will be outside the depot at 260 N. Washington St., with coffee and kolaches to follow.
CDA No. 1962 Meeting
CDA Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum will be meeting on Monday, Oct. 28 in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewcz Center in La Grange at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Admiral J. Weldon Koenig who will talk about the balance of world powers as we discern the political implications that may affect the balance. Donations for the “Pack-A-Purse Collection” for the Bastrop Family Crisis Center will be accepted. Members are invited to attend. New members are always welcome.
Texas History Program
The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives is sponsoring another great Texas history program and book signing, “11 Days on the Colorado: The Pivotal Battle Unfought,” on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. in the library meeting room, 855 S. Jefferson Street, La Grange. Both the author, James E. Brasher, and illustrator, Amanda Danning, will be on hand to sign copies of this book about events in our vicinity in March 1836.
La Grange Senior Citizen Game Day The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Fayetteville Harvest Carnival
The Fayetteville PTC will be holding their Harvest Carnival on Friday, Oct. 25 from 4:30-8 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church Hall/Pavilion located at 205 Bell Street in Fayetteville. There will be games, a cake walk, haunted house, costume contest and raffle. Raffle tickets are being sold by FISD students. They are $10 for one ticket. Beef stew, chili, hotdogs nachos, Frito pie and drinks will be available. You will be able to dine in the hall, under the pavilion or take food to go. Special Polka Service
St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange will have a special Polka Service on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. The service is in celebration of Reformation Sunday. The music will be provided by the St. Paul Praise Band and features liturgical lyrics to familiar polka tunes. A traditional German meal will follow the service. The community is invited to attend.
