City Councilman Bosque Passes Away
La Grange City Councilman Arthur Bosque passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the age of 64.
He had been battling cancer for the past few months. Bosque was hospitalized last week and died Tuesday morning.
Bosque was well-known around Fayette County as a butcher, retired volunteer firefighter, Santa Claus stand-in, umpire, and, in recent years, a La Grange City Council member. He was a frequent visitor to the Fayette County Country Music Opry, where he occasionally took the stage to sing Freddy Fender songs. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. In addition, Bosque lent a hand in preparing a great many fundraiser meals served by the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department, La Grange Knights of Columbus and other local functions.
Bosque ran for a seat on Late LG City Councilman, Amazingly, Won Elections Twice by One Vote
the La Grange City Council in a special election in 2022 and won by just one vote. When his seat came up for the regular election the following year, he repeated the feat, winning again by just one vote.
Bosque missed the Sept. 9 Council meeting due to his illness.
But he was back at City Hall for the Council meeting on Sept. 23. It would prove to be his last.
City staff mourned his death Tuesday morning after learning the news. Bosque’s pastor, Father Chris Smith of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange, happened to be at City Hall for a proclamation signing that morning. Fr. Smith led a small group in prayer inside the City Council chamber.
La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery said she could not recall the last time a Council member died while in office.
Bosque is survived by his seven children: Jessica Bosque, April Johnson, Matthew Bosque, Jamie Fabre, Ryan Harbers, Curt Harbers and Lesley Islas.
A funeral mass will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 5 p.m. A celebration of life will follow at the La Grange KC Hall. A private burial will take place at a later date.
