The Blinn College District has received the Texas Educational Theatre Association’s (TxETA) prestigious Award of Distinction, one of the highest honors given by the Association. Blinn is one of four Tx-ETA Exemplary Higher Education Programs, recognizing outstanding contributions to raising standards for theatre education.

After 40 days and nearly 12,000 miles on the road, Fayette County resident Chris Westfall has returned from the motorcycle journey of a lifetime, reaching the northernmost point accessible by road in Canada.

The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) is an assessment of college readiness for students enrolling in public institutions of higher education in Texas. This test helps determine a student’s readiness for entrylevel college coursework in the areas of English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) and Mathematics. Students may be exempt from taking this assessment if they have met college readiness standards on a standardized test like the SAT or ACT or successfully completed a high school college preparatory course. Students should contact the college they’ll be attending to see if they need to take TSIA2. Additionally, students interested in beginning their dual-credit journey who are still in high school are encouraged to take this exam.

Bo and Linda Smidovec celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on July 12. Bo and Linda Jackson married on July 12, 1980.

The AMEN Food Pantry appreciates all in the community that provided food aid for June. This would include all that provided monetary donations, food drives and the AMEN Gardens. The gardeners have been providing beets, kale, carrots and many other leafy vegetables. As noted with the numbers served have increased for the summer months with school no longer in session.

The Schulenburg High School Class of 1976 gathered for a 50-year reunion on June 5th at the Swiss Alp Farm Bureau hall with 24 members in attendance along with some spouses. In addition to the golden reunion, Father Eddie Winkler’s 40-year anniversary of being ordained a priest was also celebrated.

The Stanzel Family Foundation celebrated its 5th Annual Scholar Launch on July 9, welcoming new high school scholars into a growing legacy of leadership, learning, and community impact.
