Ageless Artistry Showcase Returns With 42 Local Artists

Senior Connections invites you to celebrate the creativity of its participants at its second annual Ageless Artistry Showcase, running from Sept. 12 to Nov. 28 at 1203 Kessler Ave. in Schulenburg. The space, known as Jack’s Gallery, where the Turtle Wing office is located, is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday for public viewing. It is located south of On Point Dance Studio and the KC Hall in Schulenburg.

The show opens on Sept. 12 with a reception for the public, members, family, and friends to meet the amazing members, staff, volunteers, and participants in theArtful Friday classes, as well as the instructors, made possible through our partnership with Arts for Rural Texas.

The reception is from 3-5 p.m. and you can look forward to a wonderful spread of finger foods and beverages. This year we’re doing something a little different. Instead of awarding prizes to participants, the entrants are giving back this year. Many of them have donated a piece of art or more to an online auction that will take place from Sept. 27 at 6 a.m. through Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. You’ll be able to see which pieces of art in the show will be auctioned by looking for a QR code and a blue star on the nameplates next to each piece. All funds from this auction will go to the Capitol Campaign for our new/old building, known as Galipp’s Supermarket, in downtown Schulenburg.

Expect a vast collection of art, including oil, water, and acrylic paintings; mixed-media art; assembled creations; mosaic sculptures; textiles of all kinds; wood; jewelry; and florals.

We will also have a raffle for a gift basket created by Janice Collins, featuring an amazing Texas mosaic, along with a prime bottle of Texas Crown Club Whisky and two rocks glasses to enjoy it with. Tickets will be five dollars. Along with Janice, we have a long list of artists ranging in age from 47 to 95. Last year we had 22 artists; this year we welcome 42, showing the interest, growth, and need for these valuable art opportunities. Members from all our locations in Schulenburg, Flatonia, Weimar, and La Grange will be represented. The building committee reports they are moving along nicely. Survey and abatement are complete, and interior and exterior renderings are ready (which you can see at the reception).
