New ‘Svacina Shop’ Adds Czech Flavor to St. Mary Annual Bazaar
St. Mary Catholic Church debuted its newest attraction, a “Svačina Shop” snack booth, during its 76th annual Bazaar on Sunday, Aug. 23. The booth featured traditional Czech home baked pastries (apple strudel and cream cheese roll) and other mouthwatering home baked goodies prepared by parishioners, many of whom included multi-generational bakers. Sausage wraps and nachos were also available. Booth volunteers added aprons and traditional Czech sunbonnets to their attire that day in honor of the occasion.
Joe Ripple Celebrates 90th
Joe Ripple of Ellinger had a birthday party celebration for his 90th birthday. The party was held at the Historical Museum in Lake Jackson on Saturday, Aug. 29. Special entertainment was by The Czechaholics. Attending from the area were Amy Rackley, Cindy Michalsky, and Liz Fritsch. There are also 12 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.
Shared Lutheran Ministry
Worship services are still offered on Facebook, You Tube and KTIM 89.1 on Sundays at noon. Ellinger has worship every Sunday at 8 a.m. with communion.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church St. Mary’s Catholic Church Mass is Sunday at 8 am.
Brethren Church
Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.
Ellinger Chamber
The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in the chamber dining hall. All community and chamber members are invited.
