At a meetings last Thursday, Fayette County Commissioners Court approved a pair of requests from local organizations to the use the Courthouse Square for two upcoming events: The La Grange Juneteenth Celebration scheduled for June 12 and a new event, The Taste of La Grange, scheduled for Nov. 6.

ARTS, based in Fayetteville, is excited to be returning with the Summer Art Camps. ARTS’ Summer Camps allow youth to explore new creative experiences and participate in fun activities throughout the summer. Camps include activities as diverse as music, drama, crafts, gardening, printmaking, painting and more. Here children will learn creative thinking and develop positive relationships with their peers. Along with art skills, they will learn leadership and problem-solving skills, abilities that will contribute to more successes in life.

It seems Fayette County is getting above average rainfall this spring. Friday evening Ellinger was hit by very high winds and a downpour dumping 3.7 inches of rainfall in a short while. Numerous trees and limbs were blown down, and streets and lawns were quickly flooded. Weather channels even indicated that a tornado might be headed to the Ellinger Community.

A summer field trip to Aggieland Safari in Bryan is planned for incoming 1st through 6th graders of RT-C on Tuesday, June 29. The Texas Wendish Heritage Society will be hosting a drive through fish fry lunch on Sunday, June 6, at the Serbin Picnic Grounds from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The menu includes fried fish, potato salad, brown beans, coleslaw and hush puppies. Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Friday, May 28 around 2:39 p.m. the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a victim reporting a road rage incident that occurred on Interstate 10 eastbound just east of Schulenburg. Colorado County was also notified of the vehicle description traveling eastbound.

The story in Tuesday’s paper about the proposed La Grange crosswalk improvements incorrectly stated that the plans call for building a new sidewalk along Travis Street in La Grange. La Grange Main Street Director Stacey Norris told the Record on Wednesday that the plans call for “sprucing up” the existing sidewalk on the north side of Travis Street with greenery and landscaping. The cost estimates for the $779,000 project provided at the La Grange City Council meeting last week included $100,000 for a “Courthouse to Travis Street Pedestrian Path.” That item, Norris said, is not a new sidewalk but a pathway and barrier that would be built on the west end of the existing sidewalk on the north side of Travis Street. Norris said that pathway and barrier would encourage pedestrians to use the crosswalks instead of jaywalking.
