Veterans organizations in Schulenburg conducted their annual Memorial Day Service in Wolters Park on Monday, May 30. Bob Heinrich, Commander of American Legion McBride Post 143 in Schulenburg, led the ceremonies.

The 85th Annual Ellinger Tomato Festival is history. The celebration kicked off on Friday night May 27, with Chef’s Choice Entrée and Dessert competitions. Along with that was a chips and salsa contest and Margarita competition. Winners on Friday included Grill-o-Holicsfirst place in Maragarita contest; Showmanship-4 G Cookers; Chips and Salsa-first place went to Uncle G’s and GiGi Z’s won second place; Chef Choice Entrée-Just In It for the Beer-first place and Schytty Cookers took second place; Chef’s Choice Dessert-first-M&M BBQ Team; second-GiGi Z’s .

EDC Spotlight The Fayetteville Economic Development Corporation, or FEDC, is a nonprofit corporation set up by the City of Fayetteville to attract and retain business. Currently, there are six board members.

Madeleine Blair Bullen graduated Cum Laude May 21 from the University of Texas at Austin Moody College of Communication with minors in Business and Science Communication and a Bachelor of Science in Advertising having completed the Texas Media and Analytics program. Madeleine is a 2018 graduate of Round Top Carmine high school. She is the daughter of Meg and Graeme Bullen of Round Top. Her plans are to work overseas before beginning her graduate school studies in two years.

Local events A Shop Hop, hosted by Evan and Mary Quiros, John and Martha Dennis and Jerry and Bette Gips, was held last Saturday. It benefited the Fayetteville Community Center and Performance Theater.

On May 16, the second quarterly meeting of Society No. 31 of La Grange, St. Frances of Rome, KJZT Family Life was held at 4 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church Narthex meeting room. President Elizabeth Kallus called the meeting to order and led opening prayers and the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.
