The 85th Annual Ellinger Tomato Festival is history. The celebration kicked off on Friday night May 27, with Chef’s Choice Entrée and Dessert competitions. Along with that was a chips and salsa contest and Margarita competition. Winners on Friday included Grill-o-Holicsfirst place in Maragarita contest; Showmanship-4 G Cookers; Chips and Salsa-first place went to Uncle G’s and GiGi Z’s won second place; Chef Choice Entrée-Just In It for the Beer-first place and Schytty Cookers took second place; Chef’s Choice Dessert-first-M&M BBQ Team; second-GiGi Z’s .

The Bar-B-Q cook off was held on Saturday, May 28. Winners are as follows: Pork Spare Ribs-first place-Totally Sauced, second place-You Kill It We Grill It, and third place went to BDB BBQ. Chicken: first place-M&M BBQ Team, second-Triple E Cookers, and third place went to Brazos Bottom Cookers; Pork Butt-first place-Butch Sodolak, second-Just In It for the Beer, and third place went to You Kill It We Grill It; Brisket: first place-BDB BBQ, second place-Bo’s Bad Boys, and third place went to 4V Cookers; Beans: first place-4V Cooker, and second place went to Brazos Bottom Cookers. Best Overall in this competition went to Triple E Cookers.

In addition to the BBQ cook off there was a Chopped Challenge Competition. Winning first place in this event was Triple E Cookers, second place went to Grill-O-Holics, and third place winner was The Chosen Few. There was also a “Farmer’s Breakfast” competition on Saturday; Grill-o-Holics took first place and M&M BBQ Team placed second. 4V Cookers took first place in the Bloody Mary contest, and Crown Jewels won showmanship.

Tomato Trot Fun Run Winner-Kolton Vasut, run time: 21:40; Sydni Alberthal, run time 31:47.

Ellinger Sewer and Water

The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation has called a Special Membership Meeting. It is scheduled for Wednesday, June 15, at 6 p.m.at the Ellinger Fire Station, 208 W. Main St.

The purpose of the meeting is to conduct an election regarding the amendment to the By Laws. The amendments to the By Laws are standard amendments to corporation bylaws which are required by the Texas Water Development Board in connection with its financing with the Corporation.

If the members vote to approve the election propositions, the Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation will be able to participate in the financing with the Texas Water Development Board which includes both a loan and a principal forgiveness agreement. Members should have received correspondence in the mail explaining this matter and information about casting a ballot. Please note that members must vote by mail, hand delivery, or in person at the June 15 meeting to participate in the election.

The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 13, at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station.

Church News

Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Satur days at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Face book page.

The Shared Lutheran Ministery of Fayette County has been working on the Worship calendar and has scheduled the following joint worships: Pentecost-June 5 in Rutersville at 10 a.m.; Fall Blessing-Sept. 18 in Ellinger at 10 a.m.; All Saints Day-Nov. 6-in Fayetteville at 10 a.m.; Christmas Day-Dec. 25th in Warrenton at 9 a.m.; and Lessons and Carols-Jan. 1, 2023 in Rutersville at 10 a.m.

The Breakfast Church schedule for the Shared Lutheran ministry was also posted: June 26-Ellinger and Rutersville; and July 3-Warrenton and Fayetteville.
