The Smith-McMillan Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution or NSDAR held its final calendar year meeting and luncheon at the Grand Fayette Hotel in Fayetteville, on Saturday, May 21.

Katy Williams graduated from the University of Texas at Austin on Saturday, May 21 with a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree in mathematics with a teaching certificate. Katy is the daughter of Darren and Jennifer Marburger Williams. She is the granddaughter of Gay and Darrell Williams of Fort Worth and John D. and Kay Marburger of La Grange.

Members of the La Grange Leo Club received Certificates of Appreciation for their community service. Projects they participated include: City of La Grange Ice Skating, Whispering Hills Christmas and Easter activities, Deputy Santa donations, LISD Elementary School open house crafts table, Test Hunt fund raiser, and annual Lions Club Eye Glass Drive. Faith Lutheran Graduation Graduation for the second class of Faith Lutheran High School will be held Saturday May 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

The Texas Women’s League, a charity based in La Grange, presented grants totaling $100,000 to 29 local organizations last Wednesday, May 11. The funds come from TWL’s annual gala, which took place this year on March 5.

Round Top Art Revival presents the inaugural Pop-Up Art Show this weekend, Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29. The art show will be available for viewing 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. Come out an view diverse fine art curated by Round Top Art Revival. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the talented local Texas Artists! The District 13 Retired Teachers’ Spring Leadership Conference was held on May 12 at the Plum Creek Events Center in Kyle. Fourteen units (counties) of retired teachers comprise District 13, and there are 20 districts in the state of Texas. In attendance from Fayette County were Lisa Slinkard, Linda Oltmann, Melanie Mica, Karen Fitch, Carolyn West, Rick West, Nancy Pietsch.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 85th Annual Tomato Festival, the last weekend in May. The fun gets underway on Friday, May 27, with the following competitions: a Chef’s Choice Entrée, desserts, chips and salsa, and margarita contests.

Navidad Valley CattleWomen recently awarded $10,000 to eight area youth whose futures will impact the beef industry in a big way. All applicants were high school seniors from Fayette, Colorado and Lavaca counties with an interest in agriculture. There were 24 applicants from communities.
