Opening Day at the La Grange City Pool

Wednesday, June 1, marked this year’s opening day of the La Grange City Pool. Kids, teens, and adults alike could be found having fun together while keeping cool on the hot summer day. The pool is open 1-7 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Right, Peyton Drake jumps into the pool. AMEN Serves Over 700 in May

AMEN continued to be busy in the month of May serving 279 families for the month for a total of 769 individuals. A total of 125 volunteers for 354 hours served the pantry. A total of 3,372 pounds of food were donated.

Free Summer Meals On-Site at LGISD

Free summer meals to anyone 18 years old and younger are being offered at La Grange Elementary May 31-July 29, but the meals must be eaten on site at the school according to Texas Department of Agriculture Guidelines.

Recek Graduates From UT

Jessica Recek graduated from the University of Texas at Austin on May 21 with a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree in Biology. Jessica is the daughter of Marcus and Michelle Recek and the granddaughter of Rose Recek, all of La Grange.

Bluebonnet Master Gardener Kids Kamp Extends Registration

The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners are pleased and proud to announce their fifth year of holding Kids’ Kamp in Fayette County. This program is structured to provide a “hands on” educational experience with the goal of introducing youth of our area to the fun and importance of gardening, soils, water conservation and insects.

Herb Society Meets

The May meeting of the Pioneer Unit of the Herb Society of America was held at St. John’s United Church in Burton. The unit was treated to an informative presentation titled “Bitter is Better.” Members learned about the various bitter herbs and plants, including sorrel, gentian, dandelion, chard, chicory, collards, kale, and others.

David Krupala Awarded VVA Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship was recently awarded to David Krupala by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 870 Schulenburg. Chapter charter member Eugene Krupala made the presentation to his grandson. David is a 2021 La Grange High School graduate entering his second year at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, majoring in liberal arts.
