KJZT Family Life Society No. 31 Meets, Donate to SHS
Sacred Heart Catholic School in La Grange Principal LaDonna Voelkel accepted a $500 donation from KJZT Family Life Society No. 31 of La Grange on May 16. The KJZT State Office matched 50% of the net funds from the People Helping People fundraising project of Society No. 31 sponsoring the plant wheel game at the school’s Spring Festival. On May 16, the second quarterly meeting of Society No. 31 of La Grange, St. Frances of Rome, KJZT Family Life was held at 4 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church Narthex meeting room. President Elizabeth Kallus called the meeting to order and led opening prayers and the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.
Reading of the Feb. 21 meeting minutes was dispensed, Treasurer Barbara Eilert filed her report, a bill was approved for payment, and a thank you card was read.
Secretary Marilyn Kothmann read correspondence from the KJZT State Office. The deadline for the Catholic School Tuition Benefit program for KJZT members who attend Catholic schools is May 31.
KJZT Clerical Endowment Fund enrollments report by Vice President Joy Kovar showed one special birthday and one sympathy by Society No. 31, and thirty-one enrollments by individuals. Kallus gave the publicity and KJZT Traveling Unity Rosary reports.
Unfinished business: The Sacred Heart Spring Festival plant wheel booth was a success; and for the Marshall program the Flag Day proclamation will be signed.
New business discussed: Four members attended the KJZT Family Life official Texas Historical Marker dedication that was held Saturday, May 14, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Yoakum. The 10:30 a.m. Mass was officiated by Auxiliary Bishop Rev. Gary W. Janak, followed by the dedication and a reception with lunch. Seven members plan to attend the District V Meeting and Social on Sunday, May 22, at St. Wenceslaus Holman Parish Hall. Motion carried to donate towards defraying the cost of Vacation Bible School t-shirts for the June 6-9 event at Sacred Heart Church in La Grange.
District IV and V State Director Joy Kovar mentioned there is a Marketing positon open at the State Office in Austin; and she would be attending the presentation of the CEF donation to Bishop Joe Vasquez for the Austin Diocese.
Attendance prize was won by Barbara Brauner and the meeting closed with the Memorare prayer. The next meeting will be held Aug. 15.
