Road Construction on FM 609

The ongoing construction on FM 609 between FM 2237 and La Grange has caused traffic to start to be diverted to FM 154. Please be aware of the uptick in the amount of traffic that is traveling through Muldoon at this time. The lazy traffic pattern has become much busier and more attention is needed to travel this way. If you do go to La Grange by way of FM 609 be sure to add in extra time for the construction delays. Once finished it will be nice, but till then travel safe.

REMEMBER WHEN?

September 24-28, 1971 It appeared that those responsible for a break-in at a ranch house two miles west of Muldoon were going to have a real picnic and eat high off the hog. However, the caper was no picnic for the owner whose loss totaled something like $1,350.

THE LEO MAJEK ORCHESTRA: FROM THE CZECH LANDS TO TEXAS

The Majek Orchestra is one of the few polka and waltz bands in the United States still performing that can trace its beginnings back to Central Europe in the late 1800s. Leo Majek began playing his accordion in his hometown of Slavkov, Moravia and never stopped. His arrival in America in the early 1900s and subsequent prosperity enabled him to form an orchestra based out of Cameron, which along with two of his sons became a highly requested orchestra in the area. However, music didn’t pay the bills, and farming wasn’t paying well so Leo relocated his family to Corpus Christi, where he and family members worked in the shipyards. There was a large Czech and German community in and around Corpus which was ready for some fresh dancing music.
