Schulenburg Police Crack Down on Speeding Motorists
Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of Sept. 12-18.
Agency Assist
On Sept. 18, Patrolman Juan Castilleja was dispatched to the 500 block of Upton for a twovehicle accident involving an ambulance and a small passenger car while en route to assist with a collapsed individual. The medics involved provided medical aid to the driver of the passenger car.
Animal Complaint
On Sept. 17, Patrolman Chris Kalina responded to the 100 block of St. John where homeowner advised she no longer wanted her dog because she cannot control it. She wanted to give the dog up. The officer advised her to contact the La Grange animal shelter or to post on Facebook.
Disturbance
Sept 13, Castilleja was dispatched to the 800 block of Simpson in reference to a disturbance. Chief Troy Brenek arrived on scene and assisted with separating the parties.
On Sept. 14, Castilleja was dispatched to the 600 block of West Ave. in reference to an individual who advised there was someone there who was unwilling to leave. Officer upon arrival identified subjects and one wanted to kick the other out since they broke up. One subject advised that they have been living together for so long it would require an eviction notice. The parties agreed on when the other would be moving out.
On Sept. 15, Patrolman Brent Gindler was dispatched to the 500 block of West Ave. in reference to an assault and upon arrival spoke with individuals who advised they were arguing. Officer took information for the report.
Disorderly Conduct
On Sept. 12, Patrolman Frank Parkinson while monitoring traffic in the 700 block of N. Kessler saw a woman casually walking her dog to the tree then pull her shorts down and proceed to urinate right there. Officer made contact with the person and a citation was issued.
Fight in Progress
Sept 18, Patrolman Chris Kalina was dispatched to the 200 block of College for a fight and one individual was arrested for public intoxication.
Individual In Distress
On Sept. 18, Castilleja was dispatched to the 100 block of Kessler in reference to an individual who had collapsed in the roadway. When officer arrived CPR was in progress by first responders that were driving by the scene.
Noise Complaint
On Sept. 16, Patrolman Devan Taylor responded to the 500 block of Wolf for loud music. The music was turned down.
Shots Fired
On Sept. 17, Patrolman Hailee Vincent was dispatched to the 600 block of West for shots fired. Patrolled the area and all appeared good.
Suspicious Person
On Sept. 12, Gindler responded to the 700 block of Lyons for a suspicious person on a bike riding in the area. Officer was unable to locate.
On Sept. 15, Patrolman Devan Taylor noticed subject loitering in the area of N. Kessler behind the Hitching Post. Officer gave the subject a courtesy ride to Weimar.
On Sept. 18, Kalina saw an individual in the 700 block of N. Main standing near the drivers door of a Leons truck. Officer talked to the individual and they advised they were sneaking out to hang with friends. Officer observed the text message he had with his friends and let individual leave and call was cleared.
Traffic Stops
On Sept. 12, Parkinson stopped a vehicle at James and Summit for running a stop sign. Driver did not have a driver’s license and was issued a citation.
On Sept. 13, Kalina issued a citation for unrestrained child in the 100 block of Kessler.
On Sept. 13, Sgt. Rusty Roggenkamp issued a citation for speeding in the 100 block of Kessler.
On Sept. 13, Castilleja issued a speeding citation to individual in the 700 block of Kessler.
On Sept. 13, Castilleja conducted a traffic stop in the 80 block of Kessler on a vehicle for speeding in a school zone, a citation was issued.
On Sept. 13, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 80 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone, a citation was issued.
On Sept. 13, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding and driver was issued a warning.
On Sept. 14, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 80 block of Kessler for speeding and driver was issued a warning.
On Sept. 14, Castilleja conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Kessler for speeding and for failing to report change of address. A citation and a warning were issued.
On Sept. 14, Kalina issued a citation for unrestrained child and no drivers license and expired registration sticker to individual in the 400 block of Bucek.
On Sept. 14, Castilleja issued a citation for speeding in a school zone in the 100 block of Kessler.
On Sept. 14, Castilleja stopped a vehicle for speeding in a school zone in the 80 block of Kessler. A citation was issued.
On Sept. 14, Castilleja stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 700 block of Kessler and a citation was issued for no drivers license and a warning for speeding.
On Sept. 15, Sgt. Tobey McFadden stopped a vehicle for speeding in a school zone in the 100 block of Kessler. Citation was issued.
On Sept. 15, Parkinson stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 300 block of Kessler in a school zone. Individual was issued a citation for speeding and expired registration.
On Sept. 15, Taylor stopped a vehicle at Kessler and Bucek for speeding in a school zone. Driver was going 45 in a 25. Citation was issued.
On Sept. 15, Taylor stopped a vehicle for speeding through the underpass at Kessler and S. Main. Vehicle was going 54 in a 30. Citation was issued.
On Sept. 15, McFadden stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding and for disregarding the traffic light. A citation was issued.
Sept. 15, McFadden stopped a tractor-trailer for speeding in the 100 block of Kessler in a school zone.
On Sept. 15, Parkinson stopped a vehicle for speeding in a school zone in the 300 block of Kessler. A citation was issued.
On Sept. 16, Parkinson stopped a vehicle for running the red light at Summit and Highway 77. A citation was issued.
On Sept. 16, Parkinson stopped a vehicle for speeding in a school zone in the 300 block of Kessler. A citation was issued.

On Sept. 17, Roggenkamp stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 100 block of Kessler for going 50 in a 35. A citation was issued.
On Sept. 17, Vincent stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Kessler for a defective tail lamp. Driver was issued a citation for also failing to maintain financial responsibility.
On Sept. 18, Vincent stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of Summit for driving without lights when required. A citation for no driver’s license was issued.
Miscellaneous
On Sept. 12, Taylor assisted an elderly male subject with the card reader at the car wash in the 800 block of Kessler.
On Sept. 12, Parkinson responded to the 200 block of Russek for a civil matter.
On Sept. 13, Castilleja was dispatched to the 700 block of Upton to pick up items left between the air conditioning units at Schulenburg Sheet Metal. Officer took the found duffle bag and placed at the police station. There was no identification located on the bag.
On Sept. 14, Castilleja responded to an alarm in the 77 block of Kessler at the Dairy Queen. Was advised the door was unlocked and water was overflowing inside. Appeared all inside of the store was fine and nothing had been stolen. Employee forgot to lock the door. Manager was contacted.
On Sept. 18, Vincent observed a group of kids hanging out in the bank parking lot in the 300 block of Bucek. Vincent informed the kids it was not a good idea to hang out behind a bank after hours. The kids found a new place to go.
On Sept. 18, Kalina stopped an individual walking on the wrong side of the road in the 900 block of Bohlmann and advised him of the law and said it would be safer to walk against traffic so he can see the vehicles coming.
