The man wanted for a La Grange homicide was named the featured fugitive of the month by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The reward for his arrest now stands at a combined $16,000.

The Schulenburg High School class of 1960 held their 61st Reunion at High Hill on Oct. 30 with a pot luck lunch. Those in attendance were: Margret Kutac Cunningham, Atlin Gabler, Rosie Haba Haas, Gary Herzik, George Hranicky, Harvey Oeding, Lorene Svetlik Sirianni and Leo Wick. There was a pot luck lunch with social time after before everyone headed home during a beautiful Texas Fall day. It was decided to have a reunion every year in the future.

After a one year hiatus due to covid shut downs, Round Top Festival Institute will once again present Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic ballet, The Nutcracker. This year’s production celebrates the 13th annual performance danced by Ovation, a youth ballet company in residency at Dancers Workshop in Austin. The legendary ballet will be one show only at the Round Top Festival Institute Concert Hall on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 4 p.m.

Since 2004, churches across the country have showed their commitment to supporting the most vulnerable populations in their communities through Stand Sunday a globally recognized day of prayer for children and families involved in foster care. This year, CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties is joining alongside them.

The county-wide feral hog contest is being held to give landowners, producers, and sportsmen an opportunity to control feral hogs in Fayette Co. The feral hog population causes economic losses to Fayette County Agriculture producers through crop destruction, pasture and livestock losses, and environmental damage.

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Halloween Costume Contest in conjunction with the Saturday night Bingo on Oct. 30. Winners in group one were: Carol Bigottfirst place, Billy Niesner-second place, and Staci Brugger-third place; group two: Bradley Dunk-first place, Kelsey Wachsmann-second place, and Robert Natal-third place; group three: Kloe Noska-first place, David Fischer-second place, and Reeanna Ramirez-third place.

Faith Lutheran High School will be having a pie sale on Sunday, Nov. 21. This is presale only and pick up will be at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. (Same day as the Couple’s Club friend chicken dinner.) Pecan pies are $25 each and Pumpkin pies are $20 each. The Writers’ League of Texas’s Texas Writes program will be at the Nesbitt Memorial Library in Columbus on Saturday, Nov. 13. This event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.
