Would you like to maintain or even lose weight this holiday season? A multi-county community wellness program, Holiday Hold’em will begin soon, states Sally Garrett, county extension agent family and community health. This free online challenge is designed to encourage participants to gain no more than two pounds during the holiday season. Austin and Fayette counties will be offering this program starting on Sunday, Nov. 21 and will continue through Jan. 2, 2022.

Fayette County Commissioners gave preliminary approval to a redistricting proposal for the four county commissioners precincts. According to state code, commissioner precincts in a county must roughly equal each other in population.

Results from Tuesday’s voting: Proposition 1 Allowing charitable raffles at rodeo events by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association or the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association. Unauthorized raffles can be considered illegal gambling under Texas law.

In the 1960’s section of Tuesday’s 100-year Record retrospective, a story regarding the Leopard field opening up at its current location. We mistakenly listed that story as running in the July 12, 1969 Record. Erwin Sladek Jr. caught the mistake and the date should be 1966. The first year the Leopards played at its current location was the fall of 1966. Mr. Sladek said that his class was the last class to play at the previous location, where the current auditorium is located.

The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met on Sunday, Sept. 26 in the Hanslik Hall of the Texas Czech Heritage and Culture Center (TCHCC) in La Grange, at 2 p.m.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas around the world noted Oct. 23 as Make a Difference Day, the largest national day of community service.The Hostyn Catholic Daughters recognized “Make A Difference Day” by honoring some of those in the community who make a difference. As their project this year, they baked dozens of homemade cookies and presented to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and to the Fayette County EMS, to help keep up their energy. Mark Bowe and some of his staff visited the Carmine Hall for breakfast last Wednesday and presented a donation to Stuart Markwardt, President of Carmine Hall. The contributions were to the restoration and scholarship funds of Carmine Hall. Arlene Canterbury of Barnwood Living looks on.

The Schulenburg/Weimar Parents as Teachers in conjunction with First United Methodist Church of Weimar hosted a community Halloween Trunk or Treat Friday, Oct. 29 with approximately 75 in attendance. Thank you to the Roberts Family for representing the Weimar Volunteer Fire Department and participating in the event. After collecting candy, many families stayed to join in playing games: Jenga, Connect Four, tossing a bean bag into the pumpkin, Ring the Pumpkin, etc. The Schulenburg/Weimar Area Parents as Teachers program is free and open to all families with children prenatal to Kindergarten.
