Burn Banned Lifted But Caution Urged

The residents of Fayette County are no longer under an outdoor burn ban. The county had been under a burn ban for several months due to the extremely dry conditions. The ban expired March 8 and the Fayette County Commissioners Court met Friday to discuss the possibility of reinstating the burn ban. During Friday’s meeting, the Court voted not to issue a burn ban, but agreed to revisit the subject at the March 26 regular meeting.

It’s State Silver for Fayetteville Boys

The Fayetteville basketball team’s amazing season came to an end one win short of a state title as the Lions lost to Turkey Valley 66-48 Thursday in the Alamodome. It was the first state title game appearance for any Fayette County boys basketball team in 84 years. Here the team’s starting five hold the state runner-up trophy with their state silver medals around their necks. Bree Dooley, a 15-year-old from Fayette County 4-H, claimed the Grand Champion title in the Junior Market Broiler Show.

Round Top Courthouse Dispute May Head to a Higher Court

The dispute over the Round Top Precinct Courthouse might end up in district court. Deborah Koenig, a member of the Round Top Do Your Duty Club (DYD), petitioned the Fayette County Commissioners Court two weeks ago to sign a property owner authorization form.

Texas Ramp Project Completed 34 Ramps in 2025 With More On The Way

The Texas Ramp Project (TRP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides free wheelchair ramps to lowincome older adults and people with disabilities identified by local health care providers and social workers. Ramps are built exclusively with volunteer labor, keeping costs to a minimum. Ramps are built without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, age, or gender.
On Jan. 8, TRP volunteers built a 24-foot wheelchair ramp on FM 2144 south of Schulenburg.

Flatonia Rotary Hears About America250 Celebrations This Year In Fayette County

The Rottary Club of Flatonia welcomed two guest speakers at its weekly meeting hosted by Rotarian Judy Pate. Speaker Carolyn Caflisch of the Smith McMillan Chapter, Daughters of the Amerrican Revolution, spoke about America250, the nationwide celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States on Independence Day, July 4, 2026. She highlighted the discovery of John Sorrell, a soldier of the American Revolutionary War, who is buried in Fayette County.
