Sparked by Downed Power Line, Fire Was Still Burning at Press Time A downed power line sparked a wildfire the spread to about 40 acres in the Warda area as of around 8 a.m. on Monday, March 16.
The Whirling Pines Fire was only 25-percent contained Monday morning.

1976: Local Couple Loses Their Lives in Tragic Mobile Home Blaze

A La Grange couple, Guy Wilson, 56, and his wife, Peggy, 46, lost their lives when fire raced through their mobile home on E. Lower Line St. early Monday morning. A La Grange Volunteer Fire Department spokesperson said the alarm was turned in at 3 a.m., but by the time firefighters arrived minutes later, flames and smoke were coming out of the windows. The couple had operated Peggy’s Pizza Parlor in the Monument Hill area.

The LCRA Board of Directors met Thursday and appointed Jim Travis as acting general manager, effective today, following the departure of General Manager Phil Wilson. Wilson, who has led LCRA since February 2014, is stepping down from his role to pursue a new opportunity.

Inaugural Fayetteville Second Sunday Polka Dance Held March 8

It may have been damp outside, but it was sunny, bright and high-spirited inside the new Fayetteville Community Center for the inaugural 2nd Sunday Polka Dance held on March 8. More than 100 seasoned dancers and polka lovers, as well as those new to the tradition, gathered for the dance featuring the outstanding music of Polka Friends, comprised of seasoned (and upcoming) performers: Duane and Donnie Wavra, Robert Herridge, Allison Crowson, Rick Weiss and Miss Ella B.
Over 100 guests attended the first 2nd Sunday Polka Dance held in the new Fayetteville Community Center.
