The Fayette County Country Music Club will host their monthly Opry on Monday, Jan. 17 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in La Grange. The show starts at 7 p.m. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $7.

An organic landscape and garden seminar will take place at Casino Hall in La Grange on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, Jan. 22, as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick- Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by 5 p.m. on Friday. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items from the entire city.

The application for a ballot by mail has been revised by the Texas Secretary of State. Voters who want to vote by mail must use this new application to request a ballot by mail. If a voter uses the wrong application for a ballot by mail, it will be rejected by the Elections Office.

Fayette/Lee County U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Levi F. Garlick reminds livestock producers who suffered grazing losses that occurred throughout 2021 due to drought to report their losses timely and to enroll in the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) by Jan. 30.

Hogs are back in the area. After a break from the pests they seem to have come back to tear up pastures and become nuisances on the roads again. Several have been hit on the roads and vehicle damage can be substantial. So keep your eyes open and watching for wildlife.

The date for the annual domino tournament held by the Winchester Area Civic Association has been set for Sunday, Feb. 20 beginning at 1 p.m., at the St. Michael’s Park Pavilion in Winchester. A meal will be available prior to the beginning of the tournament. Straight and 42 will be played. A silent auction is planned and will be BYOB. Proceeds benefit local charities and scholarships.

A blood drive will be held at Martin Luther Lutheran Church on Sunday, Jan. 23 from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The county-wide feral hog contest is being held to give landowners, producers, and sportsmen an opportunity to control feral hogs in Fayette Co. The feral hog population causes economic losses to Fayette County Agriculture producers through crop destruction, pasture and livestock losses, and environmental damage.
